Weekly update 23/01/2025

23 Jan 2025

We believe that our children should have the aspiration and opportunity to ‘Live life in all its fullness’ and ‘Shine like stars in the sky’.

New this week…

Young Voices

As Young Voices is fast approaching, please encourage your child to listen to some of the songs we are still learning at home.
Also, the songs are available on apple music and Spotify, from the official young voices. Just search Young Voices 2025
Please remind your child to listen to these at home to familiarise themselves with them so they can fully enjoy the Young Voices experience.
Thank you for your support.

KS1 Immersive Workshop for Science on Monday 27th January.

Emma from Love Science in Bedale is coming in to see KS1 and sheep track their work from last year on the Human Body.

They will discuss the purpose of a skeleton, and she will introduce them to Bob, a special visitor. In groups the children will try to identify parts of Bob and try to put him back together. If time, there will be a skeleton hunt, so they have to find the parts that are hidden. They will then discuss how our hands works explaining that it's the muscles in our arms that move out hands look at the different bones in the hand than make fabulous nose pickers!

School Council Election

There is a real buzz around school as the children consider whether they would like to put themselves forward for this year's School Council. The canvassing has started in earnest this week, with candidates putting up posters in every available spot. We have even seen some opinion polls being conducted on the school yard at play times!! On Monday, candidates will have the opportunity to speak to the school community about why they feel they would make a good school councillor. Each candidate will be allocated 2 minutes. The elections will then take place on Friday 31st during PSHE lessons. Just a reminder that representatives from Y2-Y6 will be elected, with all children invited to cast their vote.

Power-Down Pete

As part of our PSHE curriculum, we shall be welcoming North Yorkshire’s power-saving superhero, Power-Down Pete, into school tomorrow Friday 24th January. He shall be leading assembly and a series of eco-workshops across the whole school. We are hoping that this event will inspire our children to come up with a community project with an environmentally-friendly focus. More details to follow…

Big School Birdwatch

Our brilliant Y6 Wellbeing Ambassadors, Maisie and Leroy, are busy putting together a plan for our school to take part in this year’s Big School Birdwatch during the w/c 10th February. A great way to ‘take notice’ and enjoy nature – one of the five ways to wellbeing. They’ll keep you posted!

All Welcome
As you know, each month school help out with the church service at St Nicholas Church.  The next service will be on Sunday 26th January at 9.15am
