Safeguarding
At St Nicholas CE Primary School we are committed to ensuring the welfare and safety of all children in our school. All North Yorkshire schools, including St Nicholas, follow the North Yorkshire Safeguarding Children Boards (NYSCB) procedures and at St Nicholas School all staff (including visiting coaches & instructors) complete the NYSCB Basic Safeguarding Awareness course. All our staff and governors have Child Protection training and follow the Child Protection guidelines in our policy. They also follow the guidance for Keeping Children Safe in Education (DfE) 2021. The school will, in most circumstances, endeavour to discuss all concerns with parents about their child/ren. However, there may be exceptional circumstances when the school will discuss concerns with Social Care and/or Police without parental knowledge (in accordance with Child Protection procedures). The school will, of course, always aim to maintain a positive relationship with all parents. The school’s child protection policy is available here.
The school’s Designated Safeguarding Lead is Sarah Taylor. The person who deputises in her absence is Leonie Mandelson. Our safeguarding governors is Chris Burgess.
