Weekly update 07/11/2024

07 Nov 2024

Our Vision

We believe that our children should have the aspiration and opportunity to ‘Live life in all its fullness’ and ‘Shine like stars in the sky’.

New this week…

Forest School
Y3-Y6  will be in the forest tomorrow.
Nursery to Y2 will be in the forest on Friday 15th November please can children wear their kit and bring their clothes of choice with them to get changed.

Children in Need
The School Council has been really busy gathering the views of the school community about how we would like to mark Children in Need this year. The majority have gone for ‘dressing up’. The School Council invite everyone to wear ‘whatever makes you happy’* on Friday 15th November. By doing this, we hope to raise awareness of the good causes that Children in Need supports. If you feel in a position to make a donation to support our fundraising, there will be a collection on the day.

*Please be aware that Rocket Class (including Y2) will be at Forest School during the morning. They should arrive at school wearing their kit but may wish to bring a change of clothes. Sensible footwear and a coat would be advisable for all children to enable participation in usual school activities. Y6  will also need to bring their choice of clothes to change into at lunchtime as they will need to wear school uniform for Crucial Crew.

Theatre Trips
Thank you so much to parents for supporting us to take the children to the Theatre in the coming weeks. We are delighted to confirm these trips will be going ahead and further details will follow closer to the time.

Busy end
Parents are invited to a busy end in school next week on Thursday 14th November at 2.45pm. This will be an opportunity to visit class and for your child to celebrate and share with you some of their learning from this term.

Parent working party
This will take place before the busy end with a 2.15pm start for those parents who wish to attend. This term we will be looking at the personal development map for children in school and asking for parents feed into this.

Netball
Thank you to those parents who signed up for the netball super cup visit in March next year. Payment for tickets and/or transport is now due. We have one parent who signed up for a ticket but did not add their name to the form. If you requested a ticket, but have not been contacted by the school office for payment, please contact us as this may be your ticket.

Crucial Crew, Year 6.
In the morning, on Friday 15th November Year 6 pupils will be going to Crucial Crew near Thirsk with Miss Marlow.  Crucial Crew is a multi-agency event organised through schools, by the police and supported by the fire service.
They aim to raise awareness of safety issues to school children in Year 6 (aged 10-11).
The event takes the form of a range of 20-minute interactive scenarios which cover a wide range of topics, each educating the students in a specific risk.
Our scenario includes the children having ‘hands on’ experience in what to do if they discover a fire in the home and how to make an emergency call. They will identify risks set up in the scenario and learn how to make their homes safer.
Other scenarios include:
  • Water Safety
  • Heathy Child Team
  • Internet Safety
  • IDAS (Independent Domestic Abuse Services)
  • Drugs and Alcohol Awareness
  • Anti-social Behaviour

Nursery
Unfortunately Nursery will be closed on Tuesday 3rd December.  Affected parents have been contacted directly.

Craft club
Mrs Lancaster has asked if anyone can donate kitchen roll tubes for craft club – if so please drop them into school.

Reminders…

Poppy Appeal
As in past years, we are supporting the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal with poppies and other items available in school for a donation.  Our School Council will visit each class at the end of each day this week should anyone like to make a purchase.
Suggested donations:
50p for a paper poppy or sticker
£1 for a wristband or keyring
We shall be asking children to keep wristbands and keyrings at home to avoid any losses, confusion or disruption to lessons.  The last day of the appeal will be Monday 11th November on Remembrance Day itself.

The Clothing Bank

Exciting news, everyone! We are thrilled to announce our support for The Clothing Bank, a wonderful charity dedicated to making a difference in our community. Stay tuned, as the School Council will be reaching out soon with more details on how you can get involved and help those in need! In the mean time, please see attached flyer!
