Weekly update 14/11/2024

14 Nov 2024

Our Vision

We believe that our children should have the aspiration and opportunity to ‘Live life in all its fullness’ and ‘Shine like stars in the sky’.

New this week…

Save the Date!

Many children have been asking when our next JAM Messy Church session will be taking place.  This will be on Tuesday 10th December from 3:30 - 5:00.  More details will follow nearer the time.

Asteroids: Wild Science Workshop

On Monday afternoon, 18th November, Lindsay from Wild Science is coming into school to work with Key Stage 2.  We will be sheep tracking our Science units from last year: adaptation, camouflage and the human skeleton.  These 2 sessions will be hands on and interactive, we can't wait.

Cross Country Competition at Outwood Academy.

On Wednesday, 20th November KS1 and KS2 are going to Outwood Academy.  If your child has volunteered to run in this event, please can they come into school on Wednesday in their outdoor PE kits (tracksuit bottoms and jumper) and bring with them their school uniform?  A coat and water bottle would be beneficial.  They will be travelling by bus after registration with Miss Marlow, Mrs Cornforth, Mrs Walker and Mrs Lancaster.  They will return in time for lunch.  We hope they have a great morning and enjoy the experience.

Reminders…

Forest School

Nursery to Y2 will be in the forest on Friday 15th November. Please can they come in their forest school kit and bring their clothes of choice with them to get changed.

Children in Need

The School Council has been really busy gathering the views of the school community about how we would like to mark Children in Need this year. The majority have gone for ‘dressing up’. The School Council invite everyone to wear ‘whatever makes you happy’* on Friday 15th November. By doing this, we hope to raise awareness of the good causes that Children in Need supports. If you feel in a position to make a donation to support our fundraising, there will be a collection on the day.

*Please be aware that Rocket Class (including Y2) will be at Forest School during the morning. They should arrive at school wearing their kit but may wish to bring a change of clothes. Sensible footwear and a coat would be advisable for all children to enable participation in usual school activities. Y6  will also need to bring their choice of clothes to change into at lunchtime as they will need to wear school uniform for Crucial Crew.

Crucial Crew, Year 6.

In the morning, on Friday 15th November Year 6 pupils will be going to Crucial Crew near Thirsk with Miss Marlow.  Crucial Crew is a multi-agency event organised through schools, by the police and supported by the fire service.
They aim to raise awareness of safety issues to school children in Year 6 (aged 10-11).
The event takes the form of a range of 20-minute interactive scenarios which cover a wide range of topics, each educating the students in a specific risk.
Our scenario includes the children having ‘hands on’ experience in what to do if they discover a fire in the home and how to make an emergency call. They will identify risks set up in the scenario and learn how to make their homes safer.
