Weekly update 06/09/2024

06 Sep 2024

Our Vision

We believe that our children should have the aspiration and opportunity to ‘Live life in all its fullness’ and ‘Shine like stars in the sky’.

New this week…

Welcome back!
We hope you all had great summer holidays and enjoyed some time to relax, have fun and catch up with friends and family.
What a start to the school term; the children have come back full of enthusiasm for the year ahead, full of smiles and ready to take on the world!

Harvest Festival
Our Harvest Festival will be held in Church on Thursday 12th September at 2.30pm.

We are asking for donations for the Harvest Festival this year to go to RABI (Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution).  Here is a statement from their website and a link to donate directly to their amazing charity:

"Help Support Farming People's Wellbeing
With your donation, RABI could support more farming people around the country – from the youngest to the oldest.
We offer a free-to-call 24/7 Helpline for our farming community. Our Helpline is available to all farming people throughout the year, particularly for those who may feel isolated, lonely or are finding it hard to cope with their general wellbeing and mental health.
Your donation today could keep our Helpline open, support a farming family in crisis or help fund our Regional Support Managers who provide professional advice and support, often in person.
RABI continues to work tirelessly to uplift and support farming people through practical, financial and emotional assistance, touching the lives of thousands of people every year."

Please follow the link to support RABI if you feel able to: https://donorbox.org/rabidonate

We look forward to welcoming you to celebrate Harvest Festival with us.

Please note, children will return to school to collect their book bags, coats and water bottles and be picked up as usual from their classrooms.

Reception Reading Meeting
Parents are strongly encouraged to attend this meeting to find out how we teach children to read.  We use a different approach to how you yourself might have been taught- it may even be different to how any of your older children have been taught so please do come along to find out how you can best support your child to become a reader.
The meeting is at 3.30pm on Tuesday 17th September at St Nicholas School, or you can attend the same meeting at Kirkby Malzeard School at 5pm.

Resources
Rocket Class need lots of yoghurt pots and small 'Yakult'-style bottles for a DT project.  Please could you send in to school if you have any of these at home.  Thank you.

Forest School:
On Friday 13th September Years 4, 5 and 6 will be in the Forest in the morning.  Please send your child in with appropriate clothing.  Many thanks.

Football competition:
On Wednesday 18th September, 7 children from Years 3 and 4 and 7 children from Years 5 and 6 are going to play in a Football Competition at Outwood Academy.  They will be taken on a minibus after registration and will return before lunchtime.  We hope they have a fantastic time!  Consent forms and information will be sent out next week.

Diary Dates
The diary dates for the year ahead have been added to the school calendar for parents. We try to adhere to these as closely as possible, but please be aware there may need to be some minor changes as the year progresses and there will certainly be additions to these as well so please keep checking these regularly.

Class Pages on the website
Please look at your child’s class pages for the following important and useful information.

  • Termly Newsletter
These contain headline information on the topics to be covered, general information for the class and contact details for staff.

  • Class Learning Overview and Timetable
The learning overview outlines the knowledge the children will be learning in all subjects for the term ahead along with a rough timetable of the week for your child.

  • Homework
An outline of the homework expectations for the class.

All of these will be updated by 5pm on Friday 6th September.

Clubs
All clubs are now allocated with payments being loaded to parent pay by the end of the day. We would be grateful for timely payment.

Instrumental lessons
Mrs Harris will be starting instrumental lessons again on Friday 13th September. Lessons are available on piano, ukulele, singing or recorder. Please contact her directly on bryonyharris1@gmail.com if you are interested. Continuing students should have received an email already. Many thanks.
