Weekly Update 5.06.26

04 Jun 2026

We believe that our children should have the aspiration and opportunity to ‘Live life in all its fullness’ and ‘Shine like stars in the sky’.

Welcome back for the last half-term of the school year - hasn't it flown by?!

Spotlights from Learning…

In Rocket Class this week, the children have loved our new ice cream parlour role play area!  If you have anything at home that would help to enhance this area please send it in!  Thank you to those parents who have topped up our junk modelling supplies this week too!
The Year One children have continued practising their pseudo (alien) words in Phonics in preparation for the screening check next week.  You should have received a leaflet home this week with further information but please ask if you have any further questions.  Please be reassured that the check is carried out in a very low key, calm manner and usually the children enjoy it as they get to show off all of their Phonics knowledge!  I know they are all going to do themselves proud!

In Comet Class, we have been chopping, slicing, bashing and mixing to prepare a delicious, nutritious treat for tea.  I do hope that you enjoyed eating your ratatouille (if it was shared with you!) as much as we enjoyed making it!  Can you list the ingredients for your grown-ups?  Maybe you could talk them through the steps too, so you can make it again at home.  Don’t forget to use the imperative (‘bossy verbs’) and maybe sprinkle a few adverbs in as well.  We are busy writing up the instructions at school.  Once we have published our recipes, a copy will come home for you.

This week in Asteroid Class, we have started our History topic on the Mayans. We learnt where they were located and what happened in the 3000 years of their existence.  Can you tell your adult what happened to them and the 3 eras of the Mayans?  We are also carrying on with our classifying of animals and looked at mini beasts in our local area.  The parts of the play were given out before half term so I hope that lines are being learnt, we will be starting rehearsals on Wednesday 17th June at Kirkby Malzeard.

WORD OF THE WEEK
Our next word to explore is:

The children are encouraged to find out what the word means and perhaps use it in a sentence or explore its etymology.  Their efforts are then displayed in the hall.  Although aimed more at the KS2 children, everyone is welcome to join in.

Reminders…
FOREST SCHOOL
Asteroid Class should come to school in their Forest School kit today.
Rocket Class (Nursery-Y2) will have forest school every Wednesday afternoon this half term.  Children should come to school in their uniform with a change of clothes and waterproofs in a bag ready for the afternoon.

Coming up…
SPORTS CREW TRAINING - Monday 8th June (first of 3 sessions)
Year 5 and 6 Sports Crew will be taking part in training with Sporting Influence on Monday afternoon. Please ensure that children bring their PE kit, a water bottle, and a coat in case of wet weather. During the session, they will receive training in a range of activities that they can then share and lead with younger year groups during breaktimes and lunchtimes. This is a fantastic opportunity for our Sports Crew to develop their leadership, communication and teamwork skills while helping to promote active and inclusive play across the school.

Y1 PHONICS CHECK
The Y1 children will take part in the phonics screening check in June. The purpose of the phonics screening check is to confirm that all children have learned phonic decoding to an age-appropriate standard.  If you would like further information, please see the leaflet below:
FOUNTAINS ABBEY VISIT
Following the huge success of our Bolton Castle visit, we are excited to offer another enriching educational visit for KS2 to Fountain’s Abbey on Thursday 11th June. During the day, children will explore the Abbey and learn more about the lives of the monks that lived there. We will also take the opportunity to enjoy the scenery and participate in arts and crafts and sporting activities.
The school have subsidised as much of this trip as school budgets can allow, however we are asking for a contribution of £6.00 per pupil to cover the cost of the coach travel.
Travel and Timings
· The coach will depart at 9:00am prompt. Please ensure your child arrives at school on time so we can leave as scheduled.
· We expect to return to school for the end of school at 3:30pm. We will keep in touch via email should there be any changes to this schedule.
What Your Child Will Need:
· Packed lunch (if you would like to order a school packed lunch, please put this in the comments when you confirm your place on the trip)
· School uniform, including a waterproof coat, as some activities will take place outdoors and sturdy footwear such as trainers or walking shoes.
· A refillable water bottle.
· No electronics please, including mobile phones, tablets, or gaming devices.
A polite reminder that we have members of both school with severe allergies and therefore we request that you do not include any of the following items in your child’s lunch:
Nuts (of any kind), beans, lentils, chickpeas, peas, prawns, rabbit meat, shellfish and sesame seeds.
This visit will provide a valuable hands-on learning experience to support our curriculum, and we are very much looking forward to the day.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the school office.

Many thanks to all parents who have responded with consent – please can the few remaining families do this as a matter of urgency or contact admin@ to consent. Please note, by confirming attendance, you are agreeing to pay the above contribution. This should be paid via ParentPay as soon as possible please.  If you have any concerns regarding payment, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Taylor via the school office.
Here's to a lovely day!

Now in its 5th year, it is well established in the Ripon calendar. However, its continued success relies on the attendance to fabulous free and ticketed events including theatre, music, dance and many street performances across the city.
