Weekly Update 3.10.25

03 Oct 2025

We believe that our children should have the aspiration and opportunity to ‘Live life in all its fullness’ and ‘Shine like stars in the sky’.

COOKERY IN ASTEROIDS
We are very grateful to Mrs Brassington, who has offered to return to lead some more of her popular cookery sessions with the older children.  Asteroids will be working in small groups with Mrs Brassington on Wednesday afternoons, starting with cottage pie.  We are looking forward to the delicious smell of cooking wafting around school!

NETBALL @ OUTWOOD
We would like to wish our Y5/6 team lots of luck for their Netball event at Outwood on Tuesday morning with Mrs Johnson.

HARVEST FESTIVAL
Our harvest service will take place in St Nicholas Church on Thursday 9th October at 2.30pm.   This year, we shall be supporting the Salvation Army Food Bank in Ripon and St Michael’s Hospice Charity Shop.  If you would like to donate items for the food bank, please consider the following:
We welcome donations and really appreciate support for our foodbank. Please note we can only accept items which are in date.
We are always grateful for:
•    Long life milk
•    Rice pouches (plain microwave rice preferred)
•    Tinned meat (eg stewed beef in gravy, mince in gravy, tinned ham, corned beef, hot dogs, meatballs)
•    Tinned carrots
•    Pasta sauce
•    Rice pudding
•    Custard
•    Biscuits
•    Washing powder / gel pods
•    Toiletries – such as sanitary products, toilet rolls, shampoo, soap, body sprays, toothbrushes
•    Nappies (sizes 5 and 6) and baby wipes
•    Cleaning products – such as antibacterial spray, toilet cleaner (NOT bleach), multi-purpose cleaner
Thank you for your kindness.
Alternatively, you may prefer to give a monetary donation which your child can bring in an envelope, marked “Harvest Donation” to bring with them to church on the day.

FOREST SCHOOL
It will be the turn of Asteroids (Y3-6) to head down to the forest next Friday.  Children should come to school dressed in their Forest School kit and will then change into PE kits for the afternoon sessions.

WORD OF THE WEEK
To help children develop their vocabulary and a love of words, a focus ‘word of the week’ is introduced each week for the children to investigate.  This week’s word is:

The children are encouraged to find out what the word means and perhaps use it in a sentence or explore its etymology.  Their efforts are then displayed in the hall.  Although aimed more at the KS2 children, everyone is welcome to join in.
