Weekly Update 12.09.25

12 Sep 2025

We believe that our children should have the aspiration and opportunity to ‘Live life in all its fullness’ and ‘Shine like stars in the sky’.

BEWERLEY PARK
Only 3 more sleeps until we leave for our KS2 residential at Bewerley Park.  The excitement has been building as we have gone through our preparations, everything from discussing which teddy we are each going to bring to practising putting on a duvet cover!  Hopefully, everyone has all the information they need but, if you do have any last-minute questions, do get in touch.  Please ensure that any outstanding payments are made on ParentPay as soon as possible.  If you have any issues with settling payments, please contact Mrs Taylor to discuss in confidence.

BIKEABILITY
A huge well done to the Y6 children who have all passed their cycling proficiency training this week.  Certificates will be awarded at our next sharing assembly.

Reminders

NEXT WEEK
As Miss Mandelson will be at Bewerley Park next week, the Year 2 children will be with Mrs Clegg in Rocket Class all week.  Just a reminder that any KS2 children who are not participating in the residential are expected to attend school as normal.

MSA ROLE
We still have a vacancy for a Mealtime Supervisor for the coming academic year.  This role would suit someone in the community who is looking for some part-time work in a school environment. For more information, please email admin@west-tanfield.n-yorks.sch.uk or give us a call on 01677 470329.  Please spread the word.

CLUBS and WRAPAROUND CARE
Just a reminder that it vital that places for wraparound care are booked in advance so that we can ensure the correct staffing levels. Currently, many sessions are full so last-minute availability cannot be presumed.  Booking forms for Breakfast Club and after-school childcare can be found on our school website under the Parents tab.  Click below to access:

Mrs Court will be running a Netball Club on Tuesdays for children in Y3 and above only.  Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis.  Mrs Cornforth will supervise the younger children who access wraparound care on that day.

WORD OF THE WEEK
To help children develop their vocabulary and a love of words, a focus ‘word of the week’ is introduced each week for the children to investigate.  This week’s word is:

The children are encouraged to find out what the word means and perhaps use it in a sentence or explore its etymology.  Their efforts are then displayed in the hall.  Although aimed more at the KS2 children, everyone is welcome to join in.

MUSIC TUITION with MRS HARRIS
There are a couple of spaces left for children wishing to learn instruments in school. If any new children would like to start lessons on piano (from Y2), ukulele, recorder or singing, please email Mrs Harris directly on bryonyharris1@gmail.com

NY MUSIC TUITION
Just a reminder that small group or individual tuition is available via the North Yorkshire Music Service. Click on the link below for further information:

Safeguarding, Health and Wellbeing Updates…
Are you a parent or family member with concerns about someone's gaming? Is it having a negative impact on their studies, family time, going out, other hobbies?
Like most activities, gaming can be a great way to relax, destress and socialise. However, for a minority of people excessive gaming can have a negative impact both on them and those around them.  Click on the link below for information and support:
