Weekly update 28/03/2025

28 Mar 2025

We believe that our children should have the aspiration and opportunity to ‘Live life in all its fullness’ and ‘Shine like stars in the sky’.

Planetarium at Kirkby Malzeard School
On Thursday 3rd April, Miss Marlow and Mrs Johnson are taking Years 3,4,5,6 to Kirkby Malzeard School for our Earth and Space Science Topic.  We will be leaving at 9.30am after registration and returning for 11.30am.  The inflatable Planetarium will be in the school hall and we will be able to experience the movement of the planets, different constellations learn about how our planet and the Milky Way was formed.  I hope it will be an awe-inspiring event for us all.

A MESSAGE FROM THE SCHOOL COUNCIL
Firstly, we would like to thank the fantastic Friends PTA group for all their help, support and hard work in getting the tea, coffee and cakes ready for our big celebration for Comic Relief’s 40th birthday last week.  We are pleased to tell you that we have raised £93.95 which is a fabulous amount!  Thank you to everyone for your amazing donations.

EASTER CELEBRATIONS
As confirmed by email on Monday, our end-of-term Easter get together will take place on the afternoon of Friday 4th April to tie in with the early end of term finish time of 2pm.  Parents and carers are warmly invited to join us at 1:15pm for tea, coffee and scones (freshly baked by the children).   The children are looking forward to entertaining you with some Easter songs!

Reminders…

Forest School
Next week will be the final Forest School session on Wednesdays until Summer 2.

Last Call for JAM Messy Church
Many thanks to all those who have already signed up for our after-school JAM session next Tuesday.  As ever, it is going to be very busy!  Please can any further responses be received by the close of today to help with catering, resources, etc.  Many thanks.

Items from Home

Just a polite reminder that we discourage children from bringing toys and other personal items from home.  This is for a number of reasons, but mainly because if these items get lost or damaged it can cause upset.  Of course, we are still always happy to share items of educational interest or achievements during ‘show and tell’ time.  (These items will be stored safely by the teacher during lesson time.)
We have also explained to children that they should not wear SMART watches at school.  An ordinary watch or ‘fitbit’ that tells the time/counts steps only is fine, but any smart watch/device that is able to send/receive calls or messages or take photographs/ videos is treated the same as mobile phones and are not allowed to be used on site.

Message from the friends
The Friends of St Nicholas School have lots of preloved uniform for sale, including shorts and summer dresses for the summer term.  Items are 50p each or £1 for jumpers and coats. Please see the Friends of St Nicholas School Facebook page for more details and send a message to Jen Whitehouse on 07824 355024 if you'd like anything.

SEN Queries and Questions

  • Let's Talk - Sensory Processing
  • Tuesday 01st April; 10.00am and 7.15pm
This session for parents and carers of children with SEND will focus on sensory preferences, differences and how to find a calm state. The session has been developed in partnership with NYC Inclusion and NHS Occupational Therapy. • Is it ok to intervene and how do we go about it?
  • How can we develop self-regulation?
