Weekly Update 14.03.25

We believe that our children should have the aspiration and opportunity to ‘Live life in all its fullness’ and ‘Shine like stars in the sky’.

British Science Week
The children have really enjoyed taking part in British Science Week this week – as well as our usual Science lessons, we have used Science in many other areas of the curriculum too!
Each class has participated in some great webinars from the NFU, starting with Change Champions- an interactive, action packed session for Key Stage 1!  We met Farmers Lutfi and Ruby, their amazing family of change champions and their cheeky gang of chickens, goats and sheep!  The Change Champion family showed us all the ways they fight climate change on their farm and then we joined Tom the food-waste fighting chef in his kitchen to whip up a delicious, zero waste delight and learn how we can become change champions ourselves!
Key Stage 2 were treated to Amazing Adaptation Day !  During this time, we looked at amazing adaptations, learning how a range of exciting animals and crops have adapted to their environments. Have you ever met a Belted Galloway or one of only 17 zebus living in the UK? What about a poo powered tractor or a climate change fighting sheep?  Asteroids can tell you all about this! We met the farmers who are adapting to the effects of extreme weather brought about by climate change and heard from the scientists who are working with them to plan and innovate for the future.
We hope that the children really enjoyed these opportunities and had fun celebrating British Science Week.

Gardening Club
In gardening club with Mrs Court, the children are making a bug hotel in Rockets outdoor area and could do with some more items to fill it eg pine cones, shells, pebbles, etc.

Forest School
Next Friday, Rocket Class (including Y2) will have a forest school session in the morning.  Please can the children come dressed ready in the usual Forest School kit.  Party clothes to celebrate Comic Relief can be brought in a bag to change into when finished.  There will be no PE on Friday to avoid having too many changes of clothes!

Reminders…

COMIC RELIEF – Friday 21st March
The School Council have been pressing ahead with planning this event for everyone.  This year, Comic Relief is celebrating its 40th birthday.  With this in mind, we invite children to come to school wearing their favourite party outfit that day.  So that parents and family members can join in with the fun, we are moving our special sharing assembly (originally scheduled for Thursday 20th to the Friday).  You are warmly invited to join us for this opportunity to celebrate the children’s achievements at 2.30pm.  Following the assembly, refreshments will be served for a donation, which will go to the Comic Relief charity.  The School Council would like to say a huge thank you to the Friends PTA group who have kindly agreed to help out with this.

JAM Messy Church – Tuesday 1st April
All welcome for our popular after-school session. Details about how to book will follow nearer the time.

EASTER TEA – Thursday 3rd April
All welcome for our Easter Tea in the school hall at 2.30pm.  More details to follow in due course.

News from the wider community
Our next Family Service will be held in St Nicholas Church on Sunday 23rd March at 9.15am.  This is a lovely opportunity to come together with the village community, who do enjoy the children’s contributions.  As ever, we are always grateful for any children who are willing to give up their time to represent their school and help with this.  If your child(ren) would like to volunteer, please let Miss Mandelson know.  All welcome.
