Weekly update 07/03/2025

07 Mar 2025

We believe that our children should have the aspiration and opportunity to ‘Live life in all its fullness’ and ‘Shine like stars in the sky’.

New this week…

WORLD BOOK DAY

What an amazing array of clues we had yesterday! We had lots of fun being detectives working out which books were being represented! There were some very imaginative and creative ideas, using all sorts of media, including collage, Lego models, creative writing, riddles, paper craft and improvised props! The School Council had a very tricky job on their hands to decide upon an overall winner but they took their duties very seriously, considering the criteria very carefully! Having whittled it down to ten ‘finalists’, an overall winner was decided. Congratulations to Kitty for her representation of the book ‘The Bad Guys’ by Aaron Blabey. She has received a book token donated by NYES Catering.

If you haven’t already done so, don’t forget to redeem the special WBD vouchers given to each child. They are only valid until Sunday 23rd March!

British Science Week.

British Science Week is entering its third decade in 2025, taking place on 7-16 March, and the theme to mark the start of this new era is ‘Change and adapt’! As a federation, we are going to be watching either webinars: Change Champions or Amazing Adaptations. These webinars are interactive and should be a great learning experience for each Key Stage.

On the 10th March, the NFU will be kicking off our Science Week with Change Champions- an interactive, action packed session for Key Stage 1! We will meet Farmers Lutfi and Ruby, their amazing family of change champions and their cheeky gang of chickens, goats and sheep! The Change Champion family will show us all the ways they fight climate change on their farm and then we’ll be joining Tom the food-waste fighting chef in his kitchen to whip up a delicious, zero waste delight and learn how we can become change champions ourselves! Next, we’re inviting Key Stage 2 to Amazing Adaptation Day on the 12th March! During this time, we will be looking at amazing adaptations when we’ll be learning how a range of exciting animals and crops have adapted to their environments. Have you ever met a Belted Galloway or one of only 17 zebus living in the UK? What about a poo powered tractor or a climate change fighting sheep? We’ll be seeing them all, meeting the farmers who are adapting to the effects of extreme weather brought about by climate change and hearing from the scientists who are working with them to plan and innovate for the future.

We hope that the children really enjoy these opportunities and have fun celebrating British Science Week.

Reminders…

Reading Books.

We have reminded the children about the importance of taking care of their reading books. Some of our sets are a little depleted as books have either been mislaid or damaged due to accidental spills in rucksacks. Please can reading books be kept separately in the book bag provided to keep them in good condition. Many thanks for your support with this - it can be an expensive business to replace them!

BUSY START Tuesday 18th March

COMIC RELIEF – Friday 21st March

Following the assembly, refreshments will be served for a donation, which will go to the Comic Relief charity.
