Weekly update 11/07/2024

Our Vision

We believe that our children should have the aspiration and opportunity to ‘Live life in all its fullness’ and ‘Shine like stars in the sky’.

New this week…

Early finish
School will close at 2pm on Friday 19th July as it is the last day of term! Please can parents ensure that any wellies etc that your child has in school are taken home over the summer period.

Year 6 day out
Children in Year 6 will have a fun day out for their leavers' celebration on Monday 15th July. They should bring a delicious packed lunch to enjoy. Children should be at school for the usual time and will return before the end of the day.

Year 6 leavers service
The leavers service for Year 6 children will be on Thursday 18th July at 2:30pm it is a special event where parents can join to celebrate their child's time at school. It is a heart-warming occasion that marks the end of a chapter and the beginning of a new journey for the children. Having parents present adds to the sense of community and support for the children as they transition to the next stage of their education. It's a time to reflect on memories made, friendships formed, and achievements accomplished, creating lasting memories. (Please note, this has been moved from 2pm-230pm so that children can go home afterwards).
If you would like to attend, please email admin@west-tanfield.n-yorks.sch.uk so secure your place.

HOMEWORK! Clever Never Goes
You may remember that PCSO Heather came into school earlier in the year to talk to the children about Clever Never Goes.  She has invited the children to design a poster to tell other children about this important message.  We set this as a homework task to help the children to consolidate their learning and to give them the opportunity to share what they have learned with you at home.  We would like to surprise PCSO Heather when she returns towards the end of term with some super posters - there may even be prizes for the best ones!  Many thanks to all those children who have already returned their poster.  PCSO Heather will be returning on Wednesday 17th July so please could the remaining posters be submitted by then.

Marvellous Makers: Summer Reading Challenge
Our libraries are getting creative with this year’s Summer Reading Challenge ‘Marvellous Makers’ which is themed around creativity.
The Summer Reading Challenge is aimed at children aged 4-11, encouraging them to keep reading and enjoying books throughout the summer.
Children can sign up at any North Yorkshire library from 13 July and will receive their collector’s folder to get them started.  There are stickers to collect along the way and children complete the challenge by reading at least six books by 7 September.
All children who complete Marvellous Makers will be awarded a medal and a certificate.
It’s free to join your local library and free to sign up for Marvellous Makers.
There will also be loads of fantastic events for children and families happening in our libraries throughout the summer holidays.
You can find more information here: Summer Reading Challenge | North Yorkshire Council

BOOK AMNESTY
As the year draws to a close and we stocktake, we realise that some sets of reading books have copies missing.  Please could we ask that everyone has a hunt around at home and returns any school books that they might have.  There will be no fines for late return of books!!  Many thanks.

I would also like to take this opportunity to remind you that the Music Hub offer lessons on many instruments, and now is a great time to think about what your child might like to take up to start in the Autumn term! Contact them directly via their website:
