Weekly update 28/06/2024

28 Jun 2024

Our Vision

We believe that our children should have the aspiration and opportunity to ‘Live life in all its fullness’ and ‘Shine like stars in the sky’.

New this week…

Forest School
Rocket Class (N,R,1,Y2) will be at Forest School on Friday 5th June in the morning for our golden thread. Please ensure all children have suitable clothing and waterproofs. Even though the weather is warm, children are still required to have their arms and legs covered.

Matilda tickets
Tickets have now been allocated and will be coming home with your child today.  Additional tickets have also been included for those who have requested them.  Payments for these additional tickets will be loaded onto Parent Pay on Monday.  If you requested additional tickets and do not receive them, please contact school as we had several parents who did not put their names on the form.

Matilda
The children who are involved in the production on Friday 5th July do not need to come into school wearing uniform, they can come in casual, comfy clothes, suitable for rehearsing in.

Sunhats in school
As we all know, protecting our children's eyes from the harmful effects of the sun is crucial for their overall health and well-being. While sunglasses are a popular choice for shading eyes from the sun, there is a growing concern about their safety and appropriateness in schools. This is where sunhats come into play as a safer and more practical alternative for protecting our children's eyes from the sun. Please ensure your child has a cap in school and not sunglasses. Thank you for your support with this.

Help Needed!
Do you have large, unwanted shirts lying around that could be repurposed for a great cause? We are in need of donations for painting overalls. Thank you!

Support and Advice for Parent Carers - Carers' Resource (carersresource.org)

When your child has additional needs, life can be incredibly demanding. While first and foremost you may see yourself as a parent, you are also a carer and that means there is support available and we are here to help you
Finding the right support and services for your child may feel overwhelming, especially at the time you first get a diagnosis or when significant changes are happening, like starting or changing schools, or when your child is approaching 18. We can help you:
  • Navigate the health, social care and education systems for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including the benefits and grants you might be eligible for.
  • Find out what services and support for you and your family are available locally.
  • Support brothers and sisters of your SEND child through our Young Carer service.
  • Look after yourself, with emotional and practical support that we offer to all carers.
  • Find peer support and relaxation through our groups, events and social media.

Tennis Club Summer Offer

West Tanfield Tennis Club have once again, very generously, offered the use of their courts on  Friday afternoon during the summer holidays. This is a free service and wearer incredibly grateful to the for their support of school.

Please see the information below.

West Tanfield Tennis Club would like to offer families at St Nicholas Primary School the opportunity to play tennis, at no charge, on Friday afternoons during the school holidays. We intend to open the courts from 2.00 to 4.00pm on Friday afternoons, from the 26th of July until the 30th of August.

The arrangement is that children can play providing they come with a parent/adult, who may also play if space allows, and who will be responsible for their children’s behaviour whilst they are at the club. The club will provide supervision, but not coaching, of the children whilst they are on the court.

Should more children/adults turn up than there is court space, then the supervisor of the session will rotate the children as appropriate and allow adults to join in if and when possible.

The school will provide rackets for the children and the club will provide tennis balls. There is no need for families to book as we do not anticipate a large turnout.

We hope that families take up this offer over the summer.
