Weekly Update Thursday 18th January 2024
New this week…
Royal Academy of Arts Competition - Calling all artists!!!
We have an exciting opportunity for any of our budding artists...we have registered our federated schools to take part in the 'Young Artists' Summer Show'
Now in its sixth year, the Young Artists’ Summer Show is a free, open submission exhibition for students aged 4–19 studying in the UK. Artworks are judged by a panel of artists and arts professionals, with selected artworks displayed online and on-site at the Royal Academy of Arts. There is no theme or restraints...just get creative and see where it takes you! Have a look at the previous exhibitions on their website to give you some inspiration. This an optional competition and if you wish to register, follow the steps below:
- Create your art work
- Ask a parent to submit your art work by the deadline of 27th March
- Visit https://youngartists.royalacademy.org.uk/ to register an account
- Submit your artwork which includes a brief description/explanation or your inspiration and meaning (there is further guidance on how to do this on their website)
- That's it! Time for the judges to admire your work and wait on the results.
If you enter, please do let your class teacher know...we would love to celebrate in school with you!
Parents' Forum on Relationships and Sex Education (RSE)
Many thanks to all those parents and carers across the federation who offered help to review our RSE Policy at last term's meeting about our PSHE curriculum. Those of you with eagle eyes may have spotted that a date next week had been posted on the school website but has now been removed. This is because Miss Mandelson (Federation PSHE Lead) has training scheduled in February which will help with this work. Therefore, the meeting has been postponed until after the half-term break. More information will follow in due course.

On Monday 24
th January 2024 at 9am, parents are invited to join Collective Worship at school.
Meeting for Parents - Residential Trip to Bewerley Park
On Thursday 25th January 2024 at 3:30pm there will be a Residential meeting for Year Three, Four, Five and Six parents at school.
Parent meeting for Reading
Just a reminder this is tonight (18th) at 5pm for Year 3,4,5 and 6 parents.
Coming Up...
Just to let everyone know that our next JAM Messy Church session will take place in school on Tuesday 6th February between 3.30 and 5pm. More information to follow in due course.
At the end of January, we shall be holding our annual
School Council elections when children will have the opportunity to vote for their class representatives. A number of children have already expressed an interest in standing for election. Anyone from Y2-6 may put themselves forward. They will be invited to speak to their class for up to 5 minutes to share why they would like to be a member of the School Council and share any ideas they have. Do chat to your child about this opportunity and feel free to support them with their preparations if they would like to stand.
Reminders…
KS2 Reading
This week we started to use our new learning to read resources in Key Stage 2. This is a new approach for readers in KS2 and will be in line with the approach currently used in EYFS and KS1. Children across the key stage will be reading in small mixed age groups closely Today matched to their learning to read needs. This approach to learning to read includes not only decoding but fluency, prosody, comprehension, connection to reading and on building confident readers with a life-long love of reading.
Children will closely read a book in school over a two-week period, after this time the book will come home for a couple of nights to celebrate and enjoy. It is important to return the books when asked so that the next group of children can begin reading (this day will be recorded in your child’s reading record). At home please encourage your young reader to read a wide range of books, magazines, comics and graphic novels as part of their Reading for Pleasure practice.

Online Gaming - Roblox
Online gaming can be great fun for our children and we teach widely in school about how to be safe when playing online. A game we know many of our children (across the school) enjoy is Roblox. This site can be suitable for wide age-range but needs to be managed carefully with support from adults at home. Please see the following website for specific information and advice to support you at home:
