Reading in Comet Class

Reading
It is hoped that the children in Comet Class will read regularly at home, ideally for at least 10-15 minutes each day. Every child has a reading diary to accompany their reading book. This can be used to record their daily reading and as a means of communication between home and school. In Y4 the children are asked to write the title and author of the book in the space provided as well as the date on which they started to read the book (see below):

When they have completed the book, they should make a note of their thoughts about the book in the box. So we know how often the children are reading, we have asked the children to record a tick down the side of the box each time they read at home.
In Y2/3, the children's reading record has a double-page spread for each week. There is space on the left hand side to record their daily reading. We ask that the children spend 10-15mins at the end of each week completing the right-hand side where they should draw and write about a favourite book that they have read that week. This could be a school reading book or one from home. It might be a book that they have borrowed from the library or one that an adult is reading to them at bedtime.
Y2 Reading Diary
Every few weeks a child will be chosen to recommend a book to their peers. They are asked to prepare a short speech to share a synopsis of the book, why they are recommending it, etc. and this information will be displayed in the class book area.
