Homework - 11.3.2020

11 Mar 2020

This week's MyMaths homework is now online. There are a couple of children that have overdue homework as well, so please can this be completed this week.

There is a mixture of objectives covered in this week's homework with the Year 5/6 children completing tasks around multiplying fractions and the Year 3/4 children practising their written methods for addition and subtraction which they have been doing with Mrs Hatch.

Spellings

Year 3/4 - prefix bi- and re-

We looked at the meaning of the prefixes and what happens to the meaning of some of the words when the prefix is added.
The words the children will be tested on this week are:

bicycle
biplane
bisect
billingual
biannual
reappear
redecorate
reapply
repay
rebuild

Year 5/6 - suffix -ate

The children carried out their own spelling investigations this week. They looked at the root words and thought about which suffixes could be added to each one. They then had to identify a suffix that could be used on all the words which was -ate. Finally they thought about the meaning and identified any spelling rules associated with adding the suffix.
The words the children will be tested on this week are:

pollinate
captivate
activate
motivate
communicate
medicate
elasticate
hyphenate
alienate
validate

As usual, the spellings in red are the statutory spellings that the children are expected to know by the end of Year 4 and Year 6.
