Spelling Homework

06 Dec 2019

Y3/4

We are looking at 'ly' adverbs that are exceptions to the usual spelling rules.

fully
publicly
daily
slyly
dryly
shyly
coyly
duly
wholly
truly

For most words ending in 'e', for example; nice, rude and brave we keep the 'e' and add 'ly' ( nicely, rudely, bravely)  but for the exception words due, whole and true we drop the 'e' and add 'ly'.

Y3/4 should learn common spelling rules and their exceptions.

Y5/6

We are looking at adverbs which show degrees of possibility or frequency.

certainly
definitely
possibly
perhaps
probably
frequently
often
occasionally
rarely
always
