Federation
The Federation of Kirkby Malzeard C of E and St Nicholas C of E Primary Schools
As members of a local schools cluster Kirkby Malzeard C of E Primary and St Nicholas C of E Primary first formed a collaborative partnership in September 2013. Over the following six years this partnership has grown and developed and since December 2019 the two schools have been formally federated. We share an Executive Head Teacher - Mrs Sarah Taylor and have one joint Governing Body.
Working together enables us to share not only resources and staff but also to nurture friendships and shared experiences. Our staff work together to plan work and take part in training sessions. Our children have taken part in a variety of activities including trips, visits, and sports.
Our children work together studying a variety of topics and projects. They have worked together studying localities, each taking a focus of the partner village, with some great learning experiences. We held a shared creative day with a focus on Christmas crafts. At the end of their studies they held a shared session to feedback and celebrate their learning - they all found out some amazing facts to share. We continue to plan our curriculums more closely, aiming to develop rich and deep learning opportunities and engage in future joint learning sessions.
Children in Years 5 and 6 have taken part in joint visits to Ingleborough in Clapham - for a one week residential. They enjoyed a range of wonderful experiences and it is great for developing independence and resilience.
Children in Years 3 and 4 have enjoyed shorter visits with an overnight stay to Carlton Lodge Outdoor Pursuits Centre. A great opportunity for making new friends and with new and exciting challenges.
Children in Reception and Years 1 and 2 have shared a christening and a wedding and have worked together with joint writing days.
We look forward to more wonderful shared learning opportunities.
