This week in Anglo Saxon History we have been learning how archaeologists use evidence to find out about the past. We have had our own mini-dig, carefully recording the position of found artefacts and then piecing together evidence to try and work out who those objects might have belonged to. The children were very impressive detectives and could note down factual information about each item AND put the pieces of evidence together to start to form a possible picture of who they might belong to. We then watched a clip about Sutton Hoo - one of the most significant archaeological discoveries ever made (check out the movie 'The Dig'),

We definitely have some fine future archaeologists in the making.

The children also had a fantastic time this Thursday having a go at all kinds of sports with Sports Cool Leeds North. Please check the flier the children have brought home today for details of how to sign up to this fabulous club for this term. We are so lucky to have Sports Cool visiting our school.

In English this week, we have started a new text - Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. What an amazing number of adjectives (and excitement) the children generated when they described the flavours of a wide variety of different chocolate in advance of them inventing names for their own chocolate bars.

We have also started to revise parts of speech, nous, pronoun and verbs; we are starting to see how these build simple, compound and complex sentences.

In maths, we have all been multiplying our socks off. The children have all gone away determined to improve their speed of recall for times tables. If the children practise their timetables a little every day, it makes a MASSIVE difference to their success in maths. They'll need this for when they are archaeologists!!

Have a lovely weekend everyone.
