Week commencing 14th May

15 May 2021

This week in Panthers we started our new English unit based on The Highwayman by Alfred Noyes, which is a well-known narrative poem.  The children were instantly hooked after watching an animated version of the poem.  We spent this week interpreting the old-fashioned language in the poem to gain an understanding of the story.  We have been researching 'The life and Crimes of Highwaymen' including the most famous one - Dick Turpin.  The children will eventually produce a narrative poem of their own in the style of Alfred Noyes.

In science we investigated fizzy drinks and the amount of carbon dioxide they contain.  If you are wondering how we did it - ask your child!  But to give you a clue we measured the drink when it was both fizzy and flat.  Have a look at the children busy carrying out their experiment in the photos below.

We had a surprise visitor in school on Friday when we spotted a hedgehog on the field.  We did wonder why it was around as we know that hedgehogs are nocturnal animals.  The children very quietly and sensibly observed the hedgehog as it made its way back into the hedge at the back of the field.  Awe and wonder!
