Weekly Update 23rd April
Mrs Hatch - 23 Apr 2021
What glorious weather we have enjoyed this week. Just right for a game of tennis! Luckily, we have managed to book Ellie Makin ( a Level 4 LTA approved coach ) who will work with Panther Class over the next few weeks down at the West Tanfield village tennis club. We had our first session today and learned some ball skills along with practising hand/eye coordination. The children were a credit to the school, showing excellent listening skills and perfect behaviour. We are very grateful to the tennis club who have agreed that the children can use their facilities. We have also set up a tennis net in the playground for the children to practise during break times.
Stop Press: Please see details for a half-term tennis camp on the news and events page
In class we have finally finished our work based on the book 'The Lost Thing' by Shaun Tan. The children have really engaged with this intriguing story about a 'Lost Thing' who was found on the beach by a bottle top collector who eventually ( after many adventures ) found a place for it to call home - in a magical land of lost things. Today, the children started planning their own stories based on the book and created a lost thing of their own. Please take a look at some of the narrative maps the children made showing the highs and lows of the character as the story progresses. We will be working hard next week to use the narrative maps to write our own stories.
In science, we continued our work on States of Matter and learned about the properties of solids, liquids and gasses and how the particles behave differently in each state. We went out into the playground and became particles to show how they move around.
We have had some shining stars this week in Panther Class. Mrs Taylor was very impressed with their English work. Phonics sessions have also seen some children shine like stars along with the group of children in handwriting club who did some impressive work. Well done everyone who shone like a star this week.
Make sure you look at the dojo page to see how many dojos have been added this week for both individual work and children who are showing evidence of our Christian Values while they are at school.
Have a lovely weekend. Enjoy the sun.
