Weekly Update - 16th April 2021
16 Apr 2021
Welcome back, we hope that you all had a really lovely Easter holidays with the myriad of weather that we were presented with! We hope you were all able to have a restful couple of weeks and that the children have recharged their batteries ready for the Summer Term.
We are continuing on with our maths focus of fractions at the start of the summer term. This week we spent some time recapping what a fraction is and focused on positioning fractions on a number line.
On Tuesday afternoon Miss Asker was out of the classroom so the children had Mrs Grimer for the afternoon. She thought that the children were an absolute delight and they had a great afternoon learning more about the Royal Family and in particular the life of Prince Phillip. The children went on to write their own biographies. Miss Asker will be attending another meeting Monday afternoon and I know Mrs Grimer is looking forward to spending the afternoon with the children again.
On Wednesday afternoon the children started their new DT topic of structures. It looked like they were having a fantastic afternoon with Mrs Clegg trying to make the longest paper chain out of one piece of paper and the tallest structure that could stand on its own. There were certainly some very inventive ideas.
It was great to be outside in lovely weather for PE on Thursday. Let's hope the sun shines on us for the rest of the term. We will be doing tennis, cricket and athletics over the next few weeks. Meanwhile, Panther class have entered a virtual skipping competition as part of the Harrogate Sports Partnership. The children practised three different skipping moves, recorded their best score and entered into Division 1, 2 or 3 depending on their confidence and ability. We will keep you posted on how we got on!
In Science, we have started a new topic called States of Matter which is all about solids, liquids and gases. We had a busy afternoon today ( Friday) identifying and classifying different objects according to their 'state'. Some great discussions ensued as we thought about flour, sugar and sand. They don't look like a liquid but they do act like one. And what about a candle that has just been blown out? How many different states of matter could that be?
Thank you to all those parents who attended Parent Consultations on Wednesday afternoon via Zoom. It certainly was another new experience for us as teachers! It was great to share your children's achievements and discuss their next steps in learning. Just a reminder that we are back in full flow with homework now. Please see the homework tab for more details of what homework is set and when, and as always try to encourage your children to read, read, read - it really does make a huge difference to them.
