Week Commencing 9th November 2020

14 Nov 2020

Happy weekend! Where do the weeks go?!

This week in our Guided Reading the children discovered the title of our new book: 'Lights on Cotton Rock.' Their predictions about the books were very interesting and we are looking forward to finding out what happens to Heather. This week the children have been getting in to the role of Heather and doing some drama thinking about what Heather and the Alien might have said to each other when they first met.

In maths we finished our Place Value unit dividing by 10, 100 or 1,000. We then started to think about our next unit which will be addition and subtraction. We talked about vocabulary that we will be using and what models and concrete resources may be useful. Here are some online games that may be useful for building up their mental addition and subtraction skills. There are also a selection of fantastic games on MyMaths - I wonder if any of you can get on to the leader board?

In Science, we are continuing with our unit on Animals including Humans.  We had great fun recreating the human digestive system.  Did anyone think about how this works when they were having their tea?  We are going to continue looking at this next Friday but to help with our lesson every child should bring in a plain white T shirt ( no collar).  It doesn't have to be a brand new one and it need not fit but would be better larger than smaller.  Please ensure that you bring in your plain white T shirt by Friday 20th November.

We are using our PE lessons to work on fitness.  This half-term we are doing circuits and each week the children will try to beat their personal best.  Along with this we have introduced the daily mile which takes place at the end of every lunchtime play.  The older children worked out an approximate mile round the field and the playground and the whole school is enjoying the challenge of completing the mile.  Mrs Hatch and Mrs Taylor joined  in this week.  It is hard!

In History we created our own Victorian Timelines and thought about what this told us about the Victorians. We thought that they were innovative, brave, strong and forward thinking.

The School Council are absolutely over the moon with the support that they have received from the school community for our 'Five to Thrive' campaign. The children have had lots of fun learning about the five ways to wellbeing and had fun being active with Joe Wicks helping him complete his amazing 24hr PEathon on Friday morning. I am so happy to say that our fundraising target stands at £160 which is astounding given the size of our school. Such an achievement and really demonstrating our Christian values of kindness and love. If you would still like to donate then please follow the link and THANK YOU!
