Weekly Update - 11.10.19

Miss Asker and Mrs Hatch - 11 Oct 2019

Massive congratulations to Enna and Austin who represented the school in the cross country event at the weekend. They both did extremely well in their races with some tough competition from other schools. We are so pleased to let you know that they have both qualified for the final at Dalby Forest which will take place at the end of half term. Well done Enna and Austin – we are very proud of you.

This week in Maths we have started to look at addition and subtraction. We have been looking at the vocabulary associated with these operations and have been thinking about mental strategies we can use when adding.

We have also started our unit on Measures and Converting Units of Measure.  This is a tricky subject but the children are beginning to use their knowledge of multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000 to change from one unit of measure to another ( eg; cm to m and m to km )

In English we have looked at adverbials and how these can be used in our writing to create a specific image for the reader. The children then wrote a poem about an animal having a go at using adverbials.

We have also started looking at the features of writing a diary.  We are going to write our own diary from the perspective of being aboard the ship 'Endurance' as we continue looking at our class text 'Shackleton's Journey'.

In Computing the Y3/4 children started to think about what information should not be shared online when making online profiles. The Y5/6 children started to think about people who are online and how we can keep safe. We discussed websites that the children can go to if they feel unsafe online or are worried about online chats and friendships.

In Topic the children finished their information pages on the Arctic and Antarctica. Miss Asker will put these together in books at the start of next week and the books will be on display in the Lair if you would like to come and have a look.

In RE we looked at metaphor that Christians use to describe God. The children thought about what these metaphors meant to them as well as to Christians.

We have been learning how to count in tens in French.

Next week Miss Asker and Mrs Hatch will be out of school on Wednesday morning doing some training on mixed-age maths. Mrs Marley will be teaching the children.

We hope to see some of our Panther parents at our open morning on Thursday.
