Rocket Class Weekly News 14th May

Early Engineering
Another busy week has whizzed past! We have had some potential new starters visiting us as well as our friends from Comet Class joining us some mornings whilst the older children were completing their SATs. Well done to everybody for showing kindness, patience, peace and love in a mixed up week!
I was impressed with the boys this week who showed some early signs of a career in engineering:
They were trying to create a tunnel for the sand but couldn't work out why it wasn't sliding down the tube. After much deliberation they decided it needed to be higher, so set about building a tower for the tube to lean on. They then thought the tube needed to be longer so decided to tape two together. When the sand still wouldn't travel down the tube they decided to build some scaffolding with the wooden blocks to hold the tube in place...this then progressed to sending wooden blocks down the tube! It was fascinating to watch and listen to the boys and see their problem solving and negotiation skills in action!
In Maths this week the Reception children have been working on counting in twos by pairing socks and preparing Noah's animals for the Ark. A special mention to James who has demonstrated some fabulous counting in twos! Well done!
The Year Ones have been measuring using non-standard units. We have talked about where to start measuring and how to measure accurately. We will continue this unit next week.
In English, the younger children have looked at the story of 'The Train Ride' by June Crebbin whilst the older children have returned to their work on 'The Queen's Hat'. This is all in addition to our Little Wandle phonics and reading lessons! My goodness we have been busy!
Excitement is definitely building for our trip to Yorkshire Wildlife Park! Some children are already counting the sleeps! When they decided there was still too long to wait, the children decided to create their own:
Yet more super team work from Rocket Class! Look out for more information coming soon about permissions and contributions for our trip.
Have a lovely weekend,
Mrs Clegg
