Choo, choo!  The steam train has finally arrived into West Tanfield Station!  It's involved a LOT of cardboard, a LOT of paint and a LOT of sticky tape but the Rocket team have triumphed!  The children are having a whale of a time in our new role play area, it has been very, very noisy but tremendous fun!  We've even got plenty of boxes left over just to enjoy hiding under outside!

A special mention to Harrison too who made his own mini train.  Wow Harrison!

In Maths this week the younger children have worked on doubling numbers up to 10.  We have encouraged them to put one finger up on each hand, and then two fingers etc so they can see that doubling means doing the same thing on each side.  They also enjoyed making their very own doubling dominoes using fingerpainting.  Well done!

The Year One children have been looking at subtraction and finding the difference.  We have used tens frames, part whole models and bar models.  Lots of tricky terminology and new ideas but the children have all coped really well.  Well done!

Our English has been focussed on embedding Little Wandle.  We have new 'grow the code' displays in the classroom and extension as well as table top individual charts to help children make the right grapheme choices when writing.  If anybody would like one of these to look through at home please just ask.  Sorry for the short turn around with reading books this week but we're a day behind due to the Bank Holiday.  Please make sure they are returned on Friday morning.  Please also encourage your children to change their 'reading for pleasure' book as frequently as they would like.

We have started some Geography this week and we had a very interesting discussion about where we live...is it a planet?  A country?  A city?  We discovered the difference between a village, a town and a city and began thinking about where we live and where we come to school. Hopefully we can all remember that West Tanfield is a village!  We will continue working on this next week.

Swimming starts again on Monday- remember your swimsuits and towels!  Girls please make sure that hair is tied up too.

Finally, a few more photos to give you a snapshot of the week.  Have a lovely weekend!
