Rocket Class Weekly News 29th April

Cardboard Chaos!
Firstly, welcome back and I hope you all had a lovely Easter break? It has been lovely to have the children back in school and there has been such a buzz about our new learning! I am sure you have all been asked for cardboard boxes...thank you to everybody who sent one in. We have plenty now, thank you!
Prior to Easter, the children showed great interest in trains so we decided our new role play area should be a train station. The super news is that some children have also been on a train journey or to the Railway Museum over the holidays! We started our project on Tuesday...
We nearly ran out of paint! When it came to the construction on Wednesday, we realised that we couldn't re-make the box and make it sturdy enough, so Rocket Class had to do some problem solving. It was decided that we would make a steam train with a cab and an engine, and open carriages at the back. So the painting began again.....and here's where we're up to...
We have still got funnels, a steering wheel, lights, buttons and a windscreen to add, but we are pleased with it so far. We are also going to make a ticket machine and a waiting room. All aboard the Tanfield Express!
As all parents in Reception and Year One will be aware, we have started our new Phonics Program; Little Wandle, this week. The children have got off to a great start with this new approach and I am very proud of them all. Thank you to all of the parents that gave up their time on Wednesday morning...and an even bigger thank you for ensuring all reading books were returned today! We're now ready to do it all again next week!
In Maths this week, the younger children have been working on number formation whilst the older children have been using their number bonds to add and subtract. A big well done to those children who completed their workbook over the holidays- if you haven't completed it yet please send it into school as soon as you can. I can already see a difference in the confidence levels of those children who have done the extra practise at home. Well done!
Hopefully all Nursery parents have received my email about there being no provision on Wednesday 25th May due to a school trip for children in other year groups. Nursery parents are encouraged to book an alternative session to make up for this closure. Reception and KS1 parents will receive more information about the trip imminently.
Have a lovely weekend!
