Rocket Class Weekly News 1st April

Mrs Clegg - 31 Mar 2022

Another busy week!

It was nice to be back in school this week and catch up with all of the children who all had lots to tell me and show me!  A big thank you to Mrs Cornforth and Mrs Millions for holding the fort last week whilst I was ill.

Unfortunately as I was ill during Assessment Week it meant we had to do all of our assessments this week.  The Year One children have coped very well with quite an intense week, so well done to Alexander, Emily, Harrison and Jessie!  The snow on Thursday meant that they all got to let off some steam....

Another excitement this week has been watching the doves taking turns to sit on their nest in our outdoor area.  Mrs Johnson managed to get a super photo of inside the nest:

The children have done lots of research and discovered that the male bird sits on the nest during the day and the female at night.  They don't go far away though as we have spotted them sat at the top of the telegraph pole on the path outside school.  Apparently the eggs take 14-16 days to hatch so we're not sure whether we will see any babies before we break up for Easter. The children are being really considerate with their outside voices when they play to make sure they don't frighten the doves.  Well done Rockets, you are really helping to look after God's creatures!

The Reception children have been working on representing numbers to 10 this week, again practising their subitising skills.  We talked about how to arrange objects as they would be in a tens frame as this helps us to see at a glance which number is represented:

We will keep working on this important skill.  Games at home involving a dice really help with subitising too.

In RE this week we re-told the story of Jesus making Lazarus come back to life after four days and how everybody believed that Jesus was a miracle worker and the Messiah.  We learnt about the crowds that welcomed Jesus to Bethany by throwing down their cloaks for Jesus' donkey to walk over whilst people shouted "Hosanna" and waved palm leaves:

We will build on this learning next week by thinking about Palm Sunday and the events that followed.  On that note, we hope you will be able to join us for our Easter Tea and Sharing Assembly next Thursday afternoon.  Remember to email the office if you can attend so we can cater for the right number.  Thank you!

Finally, remember that you can book a Parent Teacher consultation on our website and that these are taking place face-to-face in school this term.  It will be a great opportunity to look through your child's work and celebrate their achievements.  See you then!
