Frozen!

Happy New Year!  I hope you have all had a lovely Christmas with your loved ones and that Santa brought you everything you wished for!

It was a delight to see the children coming into school on Wednesday morning; they seemed genuinely excited to be back and they appear to have a real enthusiasm for the new learning that we are about to embark on.  This positivity is going to be invaluable as I think we are all aware that this is going to be a very tricky term; indeed we have already had a positive case of Covid-19 since we have started back at school.  Please could we ask for your support in keeping your child at home if they appear to have symptoms, and ideally administer a Lateral Flow Test.  Although this isn't compulsory in younger children, I am sure you will all agree that we all want to keep our own child and other children as safe as possible and the only way we can do this is if we all remain vigilant, encourage good hygiene and do a test if we have any concerns about our child's health.  I really appreciate your support with this.

There has definitely been a chill in the air- indeed it was like a scene from 'Frozen' on Thursday!

The children took part in some great collaborative learning- how to get the utensils out of the pans in the mud kitchen as they were frozen solid!  There was some great problem solving and team work.  We found ice inside tyres, in sand moulds and even in the compost bin!  We enjoyed looking at the patterns in the ice and comparing the different thicknesses.  The joy of Early Years- we have the time to explore and investigate the world as it changes around us.  These are often the best learning experiences as we work on our communication skills as well as Science and Maths!

Also in school this week, we have revisited our Christian Vision as well as our Christian Values and our Behaviour Policy.  We have talked about our reward systems as well as our consequences for any rare occurences of negative behaviour.  We also spent a whole afternoon discussing what 'bullying' actually is.  We talked about the difference between accidentally knocking somebody over in the playground one day, compared to purposefully pushing somebody over day after day after day.  I'm hopeful now that the children understand that bullying is repeated behaviour against a certain individual and it is not the developmental occurences like not sharing a toy or taking turns.  We also talked about telling a grown up in school or at home if you feel that you are being bullied.  Please discuss this with your child at home if you get a few minutes.  I am pleased to report that Rockets unanimously agreed that there is "never" any bullying at our school.

Finally could I ask for your continued support in listening to your children read and sending that book and reading record into school everyday please.  It would be super if you could also do your Phonics flashcards and Tricky Words too.  Year One children will also now be set weekly tasks on MyMaths which will help to consolidate our learning in school.

Thank you for all of your support and I hope you all have a lovely weekend...who knows, we might even be able to build a snowman?!
