"Team work makes the dream work!"

"Team work makes the dream work" is one of Emily W's favourite phrases and it mkaes me smile everytime I hear her say it!  It makes me smile even more when I see the children working together and helping each other out.  Here are some lovely photos of colaborative working from this week:

We have had such a busy week!  The children have enjoyed lots of sensory, investigative play with mouldable soap, green sand and playdough!  I'm sure your child's uniform when you pick them up has given you a clue as to the fun they have been having!  These experiences are really important as they encourage children to communicate and extend their vocabulary as well as developing their fine motor skills.  We're already looking forward to next week!

In Maths, the Reception children have used their knowledge of 2d shapes to create repeating patterns.  We found this a little tricky to begin with but as the week has gone on we are starting to secure our understanding of what "repeating" means and how to do it.  Maybe you could create some patterns at home e.g. when you are laying the table: knife, fork, knife, fork...
The Year One children have been working on part-whole models and simple addition.  This has proved a little tricky so we will continue working on this next week.  Could I also remind you that the children all have tasks to do on MyMaths- some children haven't accessed this for a while, so they have quite a few tasks waiting for them.  These tasks really help to consolidate the children's understanding.

In English we have finished our re-telling of 'Tidy' and we are looking forward to finding out what our next class book is going to be.  I would also like to thank all of you for reading so regularly with your children at home- I have really noticed the impact that daily reading is having on the children, and I am sure this will show next week when we have our 'Assessment Week' in school, and the children will have lots of opportunities to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of all we have covered so far this year.  Please do keep supporting your child at home- it makes an enormous difference!

I am currently finalising the script for our Nativity and hope to send out character lists and lines to learn at some point next week.  Your support at home with this will be invaluable.  We have also decided that we will put on a dress rehearsal performance at 9.30am on Tuesday 14th December for parents with young children to attend, and then our final performance will be at 2pm on the same day.  Both performances will be in the Chapel across the road from school.  More information to follow.

Have a lovely weekend everyone and hopefully see you all at the Christmas Fair tomorrow!
