Weekly News 18th September 2020

Miss Mandelson and Mrs Clegg - 18 Sep 2020

Getting into the swing of things...
We have got through our first full week - and what a busy week it has been!  We have been so pleased with how all the children have coped with new challenges and routines.  The older children have continued to be a super support to our new starters and we couldn't be prouder of them.  The younger members of the class are taking everything in their stride and settling in very nicely.  Well done to you all!
This week we have focused on our new school code which centres around our '3 Bs':
Be ready
Be respectful
Be safe
We have been thinking particularly carefully about 'Be respectful' and how this links to the Christian values of:
Each classroom now has its own 'Recognition Board' and as we spot children demonstrating the above values, we add them to the board.  The Tigers are working as a team to support each other with the aim that everyone will be on the board by half-term.
In addition to this, the children can earn 'dojos' (or team points) for their team.  The 'house' teams of Nidderdale, Swaledale and Wensleydale remain the same.

As you can see, Wensleydale are currently just out in front, although this may have changed by the end of the day, of course!  We shall also be looking out for any children who go 'above and beyond'.  These children will be mentioned to Mrs Taylor for special recognition.  The children have really embraced the new system - please do ask them about it.

Many thanks to all parents and carers who have dug out their child's school book bag.  We have now set all children up with a reading diary and book.  Initially we are encouraging the Reception children to choose a book from the book corner to take home to share with their family.  Once they have settled and begun to learn their letter sounds (phonics), we shall send home simple reading books for them to have a go at reading themselves.  Please do date and comment in the reading diary each time you share a book at home as this helps us to keep track of the children's progress.

The children in KS1 have a homework task to complete in their reading diary each week:  there is space on the right-hand side of each week to draw and/or write about a favourite book.  This does not have to be a school book, but can be any book they have enjoyed during the week.  Please return reading diaries on Mondays so we can check the homework and allocate a new book for the week.  Books should be returned on Thursdays or Fridays ready to be 'quarantined' over the weekend.  Thank you.
Wishing all our families a lovely weekend.
