End of Term Arrangements:

We shall try to send most of the children’s belongings home with them on Thursday.  On Friday parents and friends are invited to join us at school for a picnic lunch before heading down to St Nicholas Church for the Leavers’ Service at 1pm.  The children will be dismissed from church at 2pm following the service.  Any children travelling on school transport will be escorted to The Bull car park by a member of staff where the bus will pick them up.  Otherwise please collect your child(ren) from the church.

Sports Funding at St Nicholas Primary School

 

PE & Sports at St. Nicholas CE Primary School

The government provides funding for primary schools to develop PE and sport provision. As a school we receive £8000 plus £5 per pupil. This funding is used to have a direct impact on the quality of teaching and learning in PE/Sports lessons and is used to provide:   

  • Specialised professional development opportunities for staff. 
  • High quality PE/ sports coaching for pupils.
  • Purchasing resources and training courses for teachers.
  • Developing the leadership of PE across the school.

PE / sport have always been a priority at St. Nicholas School. In 2016/17 we joined the Harrogate School Sports Partnership to enable us to work closely with our partner school Kirkby Malzeard and raise our sporting profile further. We pay an all –inclusive £1300 annual fee for this membership. This funding allows us access to their vision and mission;

            ‘The Harrogate School Sports Partnership is a partnership of Primary & 

Secondary Schools across Harrogate,Knaresborough, Ripon and   Nidderdale. The vision of the partnership is to create a sustainable PE, School Sport and Physical Activity system as part of the core provision for all children and young people. Their mission therefore is to positively impact on the life of every young person attending partnership schools through the opportunities they provide. Both their vision and mission is promoted through their core School Games values of Determination, Honesty, Passion, Respect, Self-belief and Teamwork.’

      

We know our sports funding has been used successfully because;

  • We have provided increased opportunities for all children from Foundation Stage to Y6 participate in level 2 school competitions.
  • We have increased our participation in sporting competitions; in 2016/17 our pupils have been involved in 8 HSSP competitions.
  • In addition to this our children have also been involved in village cluster sporting events e.g football tournament, cross country, orienteering, Kwik cricket
  • Gifted and talented children are identified and directed towards further training / competitive opportunities.
  • We have increased participation in sporting activities after school.
  • All children make progress in PE & Sports from their starting points.
  • The leadership and co-ordination of sports and PE are developing.
