Introduction

St Nicholas C of E Primary School was built in 1965. Today the school consists of three classrooms which offer “Wi-Fi” connectivity to enhance the curriculum. The school grounds provide an attractive area with a football pitch, play equipment and a playground plus an early years play area. On-site, “Nicky's Nursery” also caters for the needs of the younger members of the community from age two upwards. Adjacent to the school grounds we have an additional wildlife area where the children can engage in ‘Forest’ school activities.

We also work in conjunction with a number of other local schools to allow the children to develop their learning in a variety of experiences.

Children enter our school ready to learn more about themselves and the world in which they live, to develop skills and attitudes which will prepare them for adult life. This learning process has already started at home and for children to succeed they need to see that you are entirely involved in their education. That is why at St Nicholas C of E Primary School parents are always welcome in school.

This website will give you information about our school and what we are trying to achieve. If you require further information then please contact the school.

Collaborative Partnership.

In September 2013 we entered into a ‘collaborative partnership’ with Kirkby Malzeard School. The partnership offers many strengths and opportunities for both staff and pupils. As a member of this partnership we can draw on the skills of a larger group of staff which will enable us to develop the potential of our pupils. As partners we have a shared moral purpose, we acknowledge the similarities and differences of our schools as strengths and will work together to achieve the very best outcomes for all of our children.  Collaboration is the way forward and is high on the government agenda – we are ahead of the game Our Executive Headteacher, Mrs Andrea Peacock, spends time in both schools each week and parents receive a copy of her timetable each half term  Currently she is at St. Nicholas every Thursday and alternate Wednesdays and Fridays but she is contactable at any time by e-mail headteacher@west-tanfield.n-yorks.sch.uk or by telephone 01677470329.
