Week Commencing 24th May

27 May 2021

What a great half term it has been. It hardly seems possible that we have completed the half term already but, as usual, the children have been an absolute credit to you all and we have had a lot of fun whilst working really hard.

In Maths this week we have continued working on our fractions of amounts. We turned things around a little this week and instead of finding fractions of whole amounts we were given a fraction of an amount and had to work out what the whole was. The children worked really hard drawing bar models (some of which may have been on the table!) and using their multiplication and division skills to solve the puzzles.

In Geography this week the children learnt about tsunamis. They learnt what a tsunami is, how it is caused and the devastation it can bring. The Year 3/4 children created leaflets to tell people about tsunamis and how to stay safe. The Year 5/6 children wrote newspaper reports about the Boxing Day tsunami in 2004. The children worked really hard on these and you will find some great examples in the pictures below.

In RE we thought about why people support others who are treated unfairly and unjust because of their religion. We looked closely at the story of Rosa Parks and thought about what we would have done if we were Rosa. The Year 5/6 children then went on to consider how holy books can offer guidance to religious believers and looked at some guidance in the Qur'an.

Our poetry writing is coming along nicely and the children are producing some lovely work using figurative language.  We will be writing our own poems after the half-term break.

To complete our science topic on States of Matter we did some predicting about what would happen if we put different types of water in the freezer.  The children were intrigued to see what happened.  Take a look at the photos of the frozen water.  Tap water. Salt water. Soda water and tap water with food colouring.

This week we say a sad goodbye to Emmerson and Porscha who will be leaving us today. We wish them lots of luck in their new school and we hope they will keep in touch.

We hope you all have a lovely half term holidays, the weather looks to be on our side! Keep rested and safe and we look forward to seeing you back in school on Monday 8th June for our final half term of the year!
