Weekly Update - 12th March 2021

12 Mar 2021

What a fantastic and exciting week we have had in Panthers this week! We were so excited to open the doors on Monday morning and welcome ALL the children back in to shool again. The smiles on the children's faces said it all and it has been SO nice to watch the children interact socially again and see friends that they have missed obviously so much. The resilience of the children, as always, has astounded us - they have just come in and got on with everything with smiles and enthusiasm and we are so proud of them. Thank you to all the parents/grandparents at home who have worked so hard with the children with the remote learning during lockdown.

The week in Maths the Year 3/4/5 children have mastered their skills with division. We have been using our base ten and place value counters to help us share and group and some of the children have looked at using the short division (bus stop) method to help them divide larger numbers. We have really focused on our reasoning skills to solve problems and prove whether something is true or false. The Year 6 children have been mastering algebra write and solving one and two-step equations.

In Geography we continued our topic of 'Water' and the children learnt what happens to our waste waster once we send it on its journey to be cleaned and returned back to the sea to enter the water cycle once again. The Year 3/4 children drew flow charts showing what happened, the Year 5 children wrote more detailed explanations in their flow charts and the Year 6 children wrote the journey of a water molecule from being flushed/poured down the drain to returning to the sea.

In RE the Year 3/4 children were thinking about why some people pray every day and why others don't. They looked at some of the things that made it difficult for Christians and Muslims to pray and thought about how praying would have calming effects and provide comfort to these religious believers.

All children should now have been provided with a wipeable home-school reading pack. This is the only thing that needs to come into school with your child, please do not send bags etc. The children should ensure that they have this with them every day and we ask that the children spend 10-15 minutes reading each night at home. We will be having a real push on this in Panther Class and will be collecting in reading records again to see how the children are getting on with reading at home. Please help support your child with their reading at home.

We have been really pleased to award our 'Shining Like Stars' this week for various different reasons. We have had children setting excellent examples in Collective Worship, amazing us with their expression and understanding in reading, writing fantastic sentences building imagery, achieving their tables in the Times Tables Challenge and demonstrating excellent understanding in maths amongst other reasons. Here are some examples of our 'Shining Like Stars' work this week.
