Weekly Update - 13.12.19

Miss Asker and Mrs Hatch - 13 Dec 2019

It has been a very busy week in school and is set to get even busier next week. The children have been working hard to learn the songs for the nativity and we are hoping that you will join us next week to watch the Tigers (with the Panthers singing) retell a very special story.

It has been assessment week this week in school and the children have worked hard completing maths, reading and phonics assessments. This will inform our planning next term and will allow us to make sure that the children are continuing to make good progress.

In maths this week the children have continued to refine their written methods for multiplication. We have developed our reasoning and problem solving skills and took on the role of teacher to mark other people’s multiplication trying to explain where the mistakes had been made.

In English we have read the Christmas Story and Dear Father Christmas. We have looked at 1st and 3rd person and have worked on using powerful verbs ahead of writing our own letters to Father Christmas next week.

In computing the children used the software Movie Soup to create some under the sea animations. We used two characters to interact and added speech bubbles to make our animations interesting.

In RE this week we thought about the true meaning of Christmas for us and for Christians. The children thought about words that would capture the true meaning and created their own word arts.
Keep an eye out for these on Friday if you come and join us for carols around the tree.

In Science, the older children learned about the Geocentric and Heliocentric theories of the solar system whilst the younger children learned about the Earth, Sun and Moon.
