Weekly Update - 4.10.19

Miss Asker and Mrs Hatch - 04 Oct 2019

This week in Maths the Year 3 children have been completing number sequences and thinking of some of their own. They have also been trying to find 10 more/less than a number.

The Year 4/5/6 children have been thinking about what negative numbers are and where we might come across them in real life. They then worked with negative numbers continuing sequences and playing games.

In English we have been thinking about an animal of our choice and describing it ready to write our own poems next week – watch this space!

In Computing the children learnt what the word plagiarism meant and looked at scenarios and decided if they felt they were examples of plagiarism or not.

In Topic the children started writing their pages for our information books on the Antarctic and Arctic Circles.

In RE the children did some super thinking about what God would be if He were something we see in everyday life. They really impressed me with their ideas – see below for yourself.

If God were a drink He would be water because water is good for you and God is good for you. (Oliver)

If God were a flower He would be a daffodil because He is bright and wonderful like a daffodil. (Daisy)

If God were a vehicle He would be a helicopter because a helicopter can watch over people. (James)

If God were a flower He would be a rose because they are special. (Ava)

We are looking forward to Mr Roberts coming into school on Monday morning to start teaching us some of the songs for the Carol Concert at Holy Trinity Church in December. This is always such a lovely event so we are excited to start preparing for this.

We have been alerted to the fact that our star of the week names are not both showing on the website.  Yes, that's right.  We have two stars this week.  Eva and Alice who both worked together on a scienc investigation about friction.  Well done girls and keep up the good work.

The children have been producing some lovely homework.  This week three children chose to write a poem.  Ava's was read out in assembly for the lucky people who were able to come today.  But both Amy and Edie wrote superb poems too.

We send good luck wishes to Austin and Enna who are both set to take part in a cross country event in Harrogate this weekend.

A slight change to spelling homework.   All children will now get their spellings sent home on a Friday.  They should be returned to school by the following Thursday.

We are so pleased with Edie who has earned 3 'Wows' this week earning 15 merits for Swaledale.  Fantastic work Edie.
