Settling in!

What a super week we have had!  All of the children are really settling in well, they are becoming more familiar with our routines and expectations, and some lovely new friendships have been formed.
Here's a snapshot of our week.....

A lot of our outdoor learning this week has been based around ramps and transport as the children showed great interest in this last week.  We have explored ramps of different lengths, gradient and materials.  We have enjoyed finding which vehicles travel smoothly down the ramps and which don't- we wondered why some vehicles fall off the ramps.  We do a lot of 'wondering' in Rocket Class and the children are encouraged to put their big questions/wonders on our 'Wonder Wall.'  So far we have got an array of feathers and eggs displayed on our Wonder Wall- the children are wondering what sort of birds are living around our school grounds.  We've also got a photo of an unusual flower that Evie found growing in our outdoor area.  I love how inquisitive the children are and how keen they are to learn!

We continued our reading of 'The Everywhere Bear' this week.  The children have hung on every word, and they ask everyday "when is it Everywhere Bear time?"  I am so impressed with how the children are developing their love of books and reading.  We are still only halfway through the book, the poor Everywhere Bear is currently in a skip on his way to the tip......We can't wait to find out what will happen next; but in the meantime we have got our very own 'Everywhere Bear!'

Each Friday a different member of Rocket Class will bring EB home, and he will have a sleepover at their house and have some adventures before returning to school on Monday.  There is a book that comes home with EB, for children (and parents) to write/draw a little bit about what EB has been up to.  The child will then share this book in school on Monday and we hope it will develop the children's skills of becoming 'confident communicators.'  The children are so excited to take EB home- they have promised him bunk bed games, soft play and visits to the chip van!

On Thursday 'Sport's Cool' came in to do Athletics with the children:

Sport's Cool' are running an after school club on Thursdays and there are limited spaces available- if you are interested please ask for further information on how to sign up.  The children had so much fun that I'm sure they will be telling you about it and showing off their new skills this weekend!

Finally, the Reception children have really "shone like stars" this week as they have started Phonics.  We are really excited to see them developing into readers and writers and I'm sure they will be keen to show you their flashcards at home and impress you with the sounds they have learnt so far!

Have a great weekend everyone!
