Week Beginning 7.9.21

Mrs Clegg - 09 Sep 2021

A fab first week!

Firstly, may I say how proud I am of the children this week!  They have all settled in beautifully, they have been kind and caring towards each other and have had enthusiastic smiles on their faces.  It has been a pleasure to teach them.  A big thank you to all of you parents and carers for ensuring your children look so smart in their uniform too.  Just a little reminder that children need a book bag and water bottle every day and ideally a pair of wellies that can stay on the rack at school.  Please also ensure that your child has a long sleeved top and trousers/joggers/leggings for forest school.  If your child has their own waterproofs then this is helpful, although we do have spares in school.

**I have a lovely class photo that I wanted to insert here but unfortunately Mrs Umpleby has not yet received all the photo permission forms back yet.  If you have not done so already, please could you return these to school on Monday.**

This week we have enjoyed reading 'The Colour Monster Goes To School.'  The children were intrigued by the monster's changing colours and expressions.  We had lots of good discussions about different feelings and how we felt on our first day at school.  Luckily all of the children agreed with the Colour Monster that school is "great" and they "definitely want to come back tomorrow!"

We designed our own monsters and the Reception children had a go at mark-making a label for their monster, whilst the older children wrote some sentences to describe their monster.  I am so pleased with how much the children have remembered about what they need to include in their sentence.

In Maths we have done lots of counting and number rhymes.  Reception children have worked hard to count out some natural objects with 1:1 correspondence whilst the Year One children have recorded their Maths in a squared book for the first time!  They blew my socks off with their presentation.  Well done Rockets!

In Science we have started thinking about creatures that live under the sea.  We started by doing a thought shower; drawing and labelling all of the creatures we know that live under the sea.  We then looked at some photos and discovered some other creatures that we hadn't seen or heard of before; the children were very intrigued by a picture of a walrus!

In PE today we have had a fantastic time playing parachute games with Mrs Cornforth.  On a Friday afternoon Mrs Cornforth takes the class whilst I have Planning, Preparation and Assessment (PPA) time.  This is also a good opportunity to congratulate Mrs Cornforth on achieving her Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) qualification.  Mrs Cornforth has spent a year completing training, doing written tasks and having observations in order to achieve this status.  Well done Mrs Cornforth!

Could I also ask that you check your child's uniform and PE kit over the weekend as unfortunately we have some mislaid items already.  These items are named so if you come across them please could you send them into school.  Thank you.

I hope you all have a restful weekend and I look forward to seeing you all next week!
