Miss Mandelson and Mrs Clegg - 15 Jul 2021

All Change!
Our week started with a change around of classes as our older Tigers were reunited with their former buddies, the Y3s, coming together to form our new Comet Class in the former Montessori Room.  It was lovely to see how quickly the three year groups rekindled their links from our time as the Tiger Class group from before the first lockdown.  The children worked really well together on team-building games and group discussion tasks as well as gathering information for a new class member, Katelynn, who will be joining us in September.

While we were busy doing that, the Reception children got busy designing and making fruit drinks and smoothies, following in the footsteps of their Y6 helpers!  James, Edie and Enna took a trip down memory lane as they reminisced about their own fruit drink project when they had been in Tiger Class.  Their experience and guiding hands were a great help.  Thank you Y6s - you have all successfully passed your work experience as teaching assistants with flying colours!

The older Tigers were a little envious on their return so, the following day, our History lesson was put to one side whilst they had a go at this task too.  There were lots of decisions to make:  which fruits would go nicely together?  How would we extract the flavour/juice?  Which liquid should we use to dilute the drink?  How should we present our drinks to make them look appealing?  Miss Mandelson was very pleased to act as chief taster and quality assurance officer!

Look out for our recipe book coming soon...!

Our fruity fun did not end there as we sampled two more exotic fruits this week at snack time.  The children were surprised to learn that our very own Sharon has a fruit named after her!  They also enjoyed tucking in to a tangy, rather sour fruit called physalis (or at least some of them did!)  We have really enjoyed trying some new and unusual fruit over the last few weeks as we have focused on our 'golden thread' of being healthy.

We are wondering which fruit we shall be trying next week...

There has been much excitement (and noise!) this week with the arrival of the builders to our outdoor area.  Many times we have had to pause our lessons as the children were so intrigued by the various bits of machinery being used outside.  We are so pleased with how the area is coming along, and look forward to seeing further work being carried out over the next few months.

A pre-school near Bilton Grange in Harrogate has kindly offered us a 'hobbit hole' for our outdoor area, but it requires a 'handy person' to dismantle it, transport it and then put it back together again.  If you know of anybody who could help with this then please speak to Mrs Clegg.

We thoroughly enjoyed our sporting afternoon on Thursday and the Tigers did us proud!  They had positive attitudes, smiles on their faces and showed great team spirit!  Well done to you all!  Look out on the 'News' page for some photos soon.

Have a lovely weekend everyone...one week to go!
