Miss Mandelson and Mrs Clegg - 08 Jul 2021

Animal Magic
What a great week we have had!  Continuing with our text, Handa's Surprise, we have focused on learning about the animals in the book this week.  The older children have moved on to writing the middle section of the story and, with a bit of help from Grandma Fantastic, they have come up with some super adjectives to describe the animals' appearances and personalities.  The Reception children resumed work on their story map.  Miss Mandelson was very proud of how they worked together on this without adult help, first to retell the story through role-play and then in pictures and writing.  As promised last week, here are the results:

In Mathematics, the older children have been linking what they know about counting in twos to the two times table and its related division facts.  They spotted that multiplying by two was the same as doubling and then went on to help the younger children to recap their recall of doubles through some of our favourite Maths games.  The Reception children really held their own.  They are going to be great Y1s!

We have also been working on calculating sums of money and subtracting to find change.  This is a really tricky concept but the KS1 children are showing great perseverance.  Well done Tigers!  A little reminder to check MyMaths as some children have quite a few activities to complete.  If you are up to date on MyMaths please use Numbots this week.

Our work on safari animals continued in Geography this week when we revisited our Science learning about habitats and used our knowledge to position various animals on a map.  We had look carefully at the geographical features on the map to ensure that each animal was in a suitable environment.  Well done, Tigers, you used the information you were given really well and had some excellent discussions about where each animal belonged, giving your reasons clearly and articulately.

On Wednesday, great fun was had by all (and a lot of learning too!) when we ventured off on our first school trip for some time...and, for some of our Tigers, their very first school trip ever!  Thank goodness we are now able to get out and about a bit more and enjoy our beautiful surroundings together once more.  Thorp Perrow was the ideal place to do this and we were even blessed with some super weather.  Take a look below to see just some of the things we got up to...

Finally, a huge thank you to all of the parents and carers who have sent in items to enhance our outdoor provision.  We are getting quite a collection!  I am overwhelmed by your support and generosity- thank you so much!  An extra special thank you to Mark's Mum and Alexander's Mum who have managed to source some equipment from a recently closed pre-school in the area.  It's going to be like Christmas Day when it all arrives later!

Happy Friday everyone!
