Miss Mandelson and Mrs Clegg - 01 Jul 2021

All Creatures Great and Small
It was very strange without the Year 2 children on Monday morning when they disappeared to spend time in their new class with Mrs Hatch, Mrs Sharpley and the Years 3, 4 and 5 children...but it was lovely to have some former Tigers revisit our classroom to lend a hand with the younger children.  A big thank you to James, Edie and Enna who were super teaching assistants for the morning.  We really enjoyed having you with us.

Having worked on creating some rather large creatures for our African safari, there was more excitement on Monday morning when the children realised that the butterflies had emerged from their cocoons.  Once the Year 2 children had returned in the afternoon, it was time to set them free.  At first they didn't seem to want to leave us...

...and, in fact, lingered to say a final goodbye to each and every one of us before going off to see what delights they could find in our outdoor area!

A big thank you to Mrs Cornforth who has organised this project.  The children have really enjoyed learning about the life cycle of a butterfly from first hand experience.

This week the children have continued to explore the plains of south west Kenya with Handa as she journeyed to take seven delicious, sweet-smelling fruits to her friend, Akeyo.  Little did she realise what was happening to the fruit along the way!  Well done to Evie and Kitty who shone like stars to create a super story map showing Handa's adventures:

They have inspired the Reception children to make a start on their own story map which we shall hopefully be able to show you next week.  We also noticed that the skin of the guava provided by Mr and Mrs Carrick had turned from green to a lovely ripe yellow.  We decided that the skin did not look very edible so, after some guesses, we decided to cut them open to see what would be inside...

A big well done to all the Tigers - each and every one had a little try to see what guava taste like.  You can probably tell who liked this unusual fruit and who didn't by the children's faces!

Forest School was great fun this week...the children were challenged to a 'bare foot walk!'

They had a fabulous time!  Thank you to Madeleine and Mrs Petchey for providing this experience for the children.

We have used our PE this week to prepare for sports day.  We have worked hard to run our fastest, balance our eggs and get our beanbags in the hoops.  We still need to work on passing the baton in the relay race...as we keep forgetting to let go!  We look forward to our official sports day on Thursday 15th July.

Finally, please do check on your MyMaths accounts as some children have got several activities still to complete.  We had a week off last week as the children were keen to compete on Numbots, but I have set another task this week.  If you could find time to do both MyMaths and Numbots then that would be great!

Have a super weekend everyone!
