Miss Mandelson and Mrs Clegg - 07 May 2021

It's raining, it's pouring...!
Well we were certainly provided with a wide range of weather this week to help us with our 'Wonderful Weather' topic.  We picked a great week to begin to analyse rainfall in our Geography lesson!  The Tigers are now becoming adept at interpreting charts and graphs as they compared rainfall month by month.  This led on to making rain gauges so that we can collect our own data day by day.  Well done to Mark for spotting a slight error with the position of our measuring tape and working hard to rectify the problem.  We wonder if each rain gauge will collect the same amount of water.  Will the position of the rain gauge make a difference?

Following on from our work on rhyming couplets last week, we decided to have a go at writing our own.  In our text 'Bringing the Rain to Kapiti Plain, we had met Ki-Pat...
The KS1 children got busy generating ideas and rhyming words to use in their own rhyming couplets about themselves and each other.  Take a look at their first drafts:

We just need to do a bit of editing to tidy up our spelling and presentation now.

The children were very excited on Thursday, as after weeks of observational drawings and research....we got the clay out!  We have learnt all about 'sculpture' and different types of sculpture, and the children couldn't wait to sculpt their own African animal:

We have got animals ranging from ostriches to zebras.  We will have to wait for the clay to dry, but then we are going to paint them, to really bring them to life.  The children can't wait for you to see their finished product!  Clear a space on your mantlepiece......
