Miss Mandelson and Mrs Clegg - 15 Apr 2021

Welcome to the Summer Term
It was lovely to see all the Tigers again on Tuesday as we came back together for what will hopefully be a more 'normal' summer term.  The children were all bursting with their news and firing on all cylinders from the word go!  We have been really impressed with how much they have retained from their learning in the spring term.  As we set about writing about our Easter holidays, each and every KS1 child was able to contribute to the discussion:  Maisie recalled how to write verbs in the past tense using the -ed suffix, Mark showed others how to spell the word 'because', Leroy reminded us about the importance of finger spaces between our words and Poppy reminded us about punctuation.  Bibi remembered the word 'apostrophe' and how to use them, Evie explained all about exclamation marks and Kitty recalled when we should use capital letters.  Not to be outdone, the Reception children all did a super piece of writing in their recount books showing their growing independence and confidence.  They each shone like stars:

In Mathematics, the children have embarked on a new unit of work all about fractions.  They should now be able to explain to you what a fraction is. This week we have been focusing on recognising, finding and naming half.   Well done to Poppy who went the extra mile to explore what she had learned even further in her own time.  Click here to find out what she got up to:
We have also been busy consolidating our work on Number and Place Value.  We have concentrated on two digit numbers and making sure we can identify how many tens are in a number and how many ones.  Some numbers catch us out, for example is it 16 or is it 61?  Maybe a game of 'bingo' at home or 'Snakes and Ladders' might be a fun activity this weekend and a chance for the KS1 children to demonstrate their number recognition?

'Our Wonder Wall' is a new addition to our classroom environment.  This is a wall display where we can celebrate the children's achievements in our areas of provision.  The children have ownership of this wall and can stick up work/pictures they are proud of, as well as asking and answering big questions.  We have already got several big questions up there that the children have asked of the adults- Mark said "I wonder who can run faster, Usain Bolt or a Cheetah?"  Mark has posted his question on the 'wonder wall', I wonder who will be the first to do some research and write an answer to his question?

In Geography we have moved on to exploring a new topic:  Wonderful Weather.  The children have been busy in the areas of provision initiating their own projects including making weather wheels, role-play as weather presenters (a great opportunity to consolidate last term's Geography work on the UK!) and Evie even invented her own device to test which way the wind is blowing!

We have also made the most of some nice dry weather this week.  The children have been excited to watch the gardeners from the NY maintenance team sprucing up our outdoor area for us and the younger children have been keen to lend a hand:
