Miss Mandelson and Mrs Clegg - 25 Mar 2021

What an 'Eggciting' Week!
As Easter approaches, the Tigers have continued with their eggstremely eggcellent attitude to learning!  We have completed our Spring assessments, but also managed to fit in some eggcitement along the way!  This week we have been looking at the text The Odd Egg by Emily Gravett:
The children engaged in some super discussion work thinking about which animals lay eggs, what is inside an egg and how we can find out which egg belongs to which animal.  Exploration of the front cover led to further questions:  Who might have laid this egg?  The children thought it most unlikely that the duck laid it and were able to give some good explanations for this!!

In our Maths work this week, the younger children have had a go at giving estimates, before using their counting skills to carefully check the actual quantity.  They have used the language of more, fewer, most, least, etc to compare numbers of objects and have practised finding one more/one less.  It was lovely to see how independently they each worked to make some little books to tell the story of Matilda the hen hatching her eggs.  The children cleverly noticed that, as one more chick emerged, there was one less egg left in the nest.

All our talk about eggs also led to some lovely child-initiated learning about dinosaurs down in the forest school...

...whilst the older children got busy consolidating last week's Geography work about Northern Ireland.  Now that we have finished exploring the UK countries and their capitals, why not see what the children can remember with a little quiz?

The children tell me that the baking we did last week was very tasty...and apparently they were all very generous and shared their biscuits with you!

We combined our Science and Art this week by doing some soil art!  The children thoroughly enjoyed mixed compost, glue and water to give different consistencies of 'paint' to create a Spring picture:

As ever our Tigers have been shining like stars.  Here is just a selection of some of their achievements this week:

Finally many congratulations to Bibi whose Easter bonnet won first prize for Tiger Class.  Well done to all who took part.  The judges had a very difficult decision deciding on the winners!

Wishing all our families a very happy and restful Easter break.  Let's hope that the sun shines and that the Easter Bunny visits!  We look forward to all coming back together for  the summer term on Tuesday 13th April.
