Miss Mandelson and Mrs Clegg - 07 Oct 2020

Rule Britannia!
Another week has flown by in Tigers!  In English with Miss Mandelson, the children have been honing their prediction skills by taking a sneaky peek at the first illustration in our new class text.  They spotted quite a few clues to help them to determine the possible setting and characters:  a very grand and elaborate building and a few tiny figures, one of whom seemed to be setting off to walk the dog!
Could it be Her Majesty The Queen by any chance?  The children are looking forward to unwrapping the book next week to find out where she is off to!  This led nicely on to our new History topic on kings and queens.  The children shared what they already know about the Queen.  Take a look at Mark's super writing which earned him a star this week:
For homework, the children have been asked to come up with some questions they could ask to find out more about the Queen, her life and her job.  Please support this by chatting to your child at home in preparation for next week's lesson.

In Mathematics this week the younger children have been exploring the concepts of 'more/less' and 'enough' through our rhyme 'One little rabbit' whilst the older children have been comparing numbers using language such as 'greater than', 'fewer than', 'equal to', etc.  How many little rabbits can you spot hopping across the grass?  How many would we have if one more came along?

Well done Reception for some careful cutting skills!  Keep practising using scissors safely.

Bibi has been a Maths superstar at home this week!  Look at these amazing number sentences:

Bibi has used the 'inequality symbols' that we have learnt about this week.  She has blown my socks off!  Wow!

We all thoroughly enjoyed meeting Dave from 'Skip2BFit' this morning.  Look at the fun we had!

We had to complete a two minute skipping challenge...we were all very out of breath!  We have decided that we all need to improve our fitness after lockdown, so when we take delivery of our new skipping ropes next week we are going to aim to use them for at least two minutes every day.  Maybe if you have a rope at home you could do a family challenge?  Let us know how you get on!
