Miss Mandelson and Mrs Clegg - 14 Jun 2020

Welcome back to a new week.  Here are the daily plans which can be followed at home as well as at school.  We hope that this format is working well for everybody and helping you to find everything you need.  Please do not hesitate to contact us if we can help in anyway.
Good morning, Tigers!  We hope you have all had a lovely weekend.  It was nice to see some blue skies and sunshine again after all the wet and windy weather at the end of last week.  In fact it was so cold, look what happened to our school postman...

...he turned blue!  We did get a surprise when we saw him coming up the school path with the mail delivery.  He certainly made us smile!  By the way, if you'd like to see how the rain has helped Leroy and Dylan's wheat crop, head over to the Science page where you will get quite a surprise!  You'll also be able to see that Hermione's bean plant has finally produced some super beans.  Maybe a spot of rain is worth it afterall!

This week we shall be using colours to help us to explore our emotions and feelings through The Colour Monster by Anna Llenas.  If you do not have a copy of this book, there is a link on the daily plan above which will take you to it.  At school we are going to be doing all sorts of activities using the ideas in this story and we hope that the children at home will be able to join in with some of them at home too.

This week, for Music Monday, I have planned a lesson based on using music to explore our emotions and feelings.  Click on the plan below:

I know that lots of you love to dance.  I don't know about you but I find that a good dance around the kitchen always puts me in a happy mood!  What is your favourite music to dance to?  I hope you get the chance to have a boogie today!  Have fun, Tigers!

Hello Tigers!  How are you today?  Maybe you can use a colour to tell me how you are feeling just like the Colour Monster!  When some of the Tigers arrive at school today they are going to choose one of the colours we heard about in yesterday's story and draw/write about something which makes them 'feel that colour' in their jar.  If you would like to have a go at home here is the template we are using...or you could just use a plain piece of paper to show your idea.

We had a quick go at this yesterday in school. Poppy chose blue and drew the park - she is sad that the park is closed at the moment.  Maisie chose green - she feels calm when she takes her dog, Bolt, for a walk.  Mark chose to do yellow for happiness when he plays on his Nintendo!  I wonder which colour you will choose?  It would be lovely to see some of your ideas if you have time to take a photo to email to me.

Have a look at the photo below.  Why does that octopus look so sad, I wonder?  And who is that peeping behind him?  Could it be Ignatius the church mouse?  Click on the photo to find out more...

It was lovely to see a few of you when the grown ups did a test Teams meeting yesterday.  Many thanks to the mums who were very patient whilst we tried to get everything working.  We are looking forward to seeing more of you on Thursday if you can make it.  If you have not yet found your email invitation with the details, please let us know.

A big thank you also to Daisy who has sent in a super recipe for flapjacks.  They really do look 'yummy in my tummy', Daisy!  If you would like to have a go at making some flapjacks like Daisy's, click on the 'homework' tab above to find her recipe.

Have a great day, Tigers!
It is Wednesday already - how the days fly by! We hope you are all feeling good today and looking forward to another day of learning whether that be at school or at home.  We have had great fun designing our own 'colour monsters' this week and sorting our feelings into jars, just like in the story:

It was lovely that some of you joined in with this at home too - thank you, Olivia, for sharing a picture of your work. It has been a strange time since school closed back in March and many of us have noticed that our feelings have sometimes become a bit mixed up as we get used to changes, new rules and routines...just like the Colour Monster.

Madeleine has sent through some lovely ideas for den-building today.  We hope the weather stays fine for you, Tigers, so that you can get outside to give this a go:
...but if there is another sudden thunderstorm like yesterday evening, you might have to be patient and perhaps build a den indoors like this little girl:

For your reflection time today, click on the picture above to learn all about being patient (and how building a den can help).  Hopefully it will help you give you a green feeling of calm!  Whatever you do today, Tigers, we hope you have a great day and we look forward to hearing all about it.

A challenge for you today Tigers!  The picture above is actually a 3d shape...but can you work out which one?  We have been revising our knowledge of both 2d and 3d shapes in school this week, I hope you have been practising at home too!  Can you spot shapes around your house and in your garden?  How many sides/ corners/ faces/ vertices have they got?

I hope you all have a lovely day, and if anybody would like to come back to school before the Summer holidays, Mrs Taylor has sent your parents an email to ask them to let us know before tomorrow, as we may have some spaces available in the coming weeks.

Did you work out which 3d shape the optical illusion was yesterday?  Yes, it was a cube!  Well done if you worked it out!

It was lovely to see so many of you on Teams yesterday.  Although we had a few technical problems, it was lovely to see all of your faces again and hear your excited chatter!  Now we know what we are doing (sort of!), we are going to have a focus for our meeting each week.  Miss Mandelson and I would like you all to prepare something to show, or a piece of news to tell, at our meeting next Thursday.  We know how much you all love 'show and tell' when we are at school!  Everybody will have a turn to speak and show us a piece of work you are proud of, or a favourite book you have read, or tell us about something you have done with your family.  We are looking forward to next week already!

Finally, just a little reminder for Year 1 and 2, to try to go on MyMaths every week.  I always try to give you some online feedback and set a new task every Thursday, so do please keep checking.  Remember to watch the lesson first before attempting the questions.

Have a lovely weekend Tigers, let's hope the sun shines!
