Miss Mandelson and Mrs Clegg - 07 Feb 2020

We have been very proud of our Tigers this week as they have tackled all their tasks with gusto, showing super learning behaviours.  Mrs Harris was also very proud of Tigers and their contribution to the Sign and Sing assembly on Monday.  Many thanks to all parents who came along to support this - we are sure that you would agree that the children put 100% effort into their performance.  The collection bucket will be available again at Celebration Assembly today should you wish to make a donation to support a charity which helps to improve access to medical care for the deaf community.

In English with Miss Mandelson, the children have continued with their quest to help Rapunzel to defeat the witches, having spotted a few scary-looking ones down in our forest area!  They have made a great start on some wanted posters and we hope to get these finished next week.

In English with Mrs Clegg, we have continued drafting our newspaper reports about Little Red.  There are so many things to think about: capital letters, speech marks, full stops, exciting word choices, paragraphs...!  Year Two are trying really hard and I am proud of their efforts.  They came home on Wednesday with some Tricky Words to practise reading but also spelling.  It is really important that the children learn to spell these Tricky Words and use them in their writing.  Your support at home is appreciated, thank you.

The use of arrays have helped the children further their understanding of multiplication this week.  The Y2 children really impressed us when they linked this to previous work on addition by spotting that multiplication is also commutative ie 3 x 5 = 5 x 3!  Well done for remembering this tricky word!

The younger children have got to grips with doubling numbers through lots of games and practical activities.

We have also continued our measuring activities in Maths- Ted was the winner of our Usain Bolt challenge!  Well done to the children that have accessed MyMaths at home- there has been some super scores.  Next time the children log in they should see some feedback.  Thanks for your support with this at home.

Our Geography this week was linked to the children's work on the story of Little Red Riding Hood as the children made maps and described the route to Grandma's cottage.  This gave a great opportunity for the children to use geographical vocabulary in some cross-curricular writing.

Finally, Kitty has lost some items of her school uniform and we think they may have been accidentally bundled up into somebody's PE bag- please will you have a check that your child has got the right clothes.  Kitty's are named.

One more week to go until we all get a chance to recharge our batteries at half-term.  The first half of the Spring Term has certainly whizzed by!
