Miss Mandelson and Mrs Clegg - 11 Dec 2019

We have been so very proud of all the Tigers this week - they have been working extremely hard and enthusiastically on their Nativity performance of Babushka and we think you are going to be very impressed.  Many thanks for all your support with providing costumes, practising lines and learning song lyrics (we all find ourselves humming the tunes as we go about our daily business!).  A special thank you also to the Petcheys and the Carricks who offered help to bring the stage blocks over from Kirkby Malzeard.  Everyone is welcome to attend our 'dress rehearsal' performance on Tuesday at 1.45pm and/or the evening performance on Wednesday at 6.30pm.  As in previous years, the children will bring their costumes home on Wednesday afternoon so that they can return already dressed to meet in 'the school room' (adjacent to the Methodist Church) at 6.15pm.

The posada has visited over half the Tigers' homes now.  This is an Advent tradition which originates from Hispanic countries, whereby the Nativity figures travel round the community staying for one night in each household.  This is a lovely opportunity for the children to learn more about the Christmas story and we hope you have enjoyed/will enjoy your turn to host the holy family as much as we are enjoying looking at the contributions from the children in the accompanying book.  Many thanks to Reverend Sian for orgaininsing this for our children and we look forward to hearing more about it from her when she joins us for the Tuesday Nativity Service.

The children have continued to work hard in their lessons too.  We have done lots of reading activities in class this week but we have not managed to fit in as much individual reading as usual.  Please do not hesitate to prompt your child if he/she needs to change their reading book or library book.  We have continued to enjoy sharing our class novel, 'The Christmasaurus' by Tom Fletcher- we hope we manage to finish it before we break up for Christmas!

It will be a busy week next week so here are some dates for your diary:

Monday 16th - Christmas Lunch

Tuesday 17th - Nativity Service at West Tanfield Methodist Church (1:45pm)

Wednesday 18th - Nativity Service at West Tanfield Methodist Church (6.30pm)

Thursday 19th  - Tigers visit St Nicholas Church to decorate the tree

Friday 20th - Carols round the Tree (9am - all welcome) followed by party-time for the children (please come to school dressed in party clothes/Christmas jumpers!).

Please note that school will close for the Christmas break at the earlier time of 2pm on Friday.
