Miss Mandelson and Mrs Clegg - 19 Sep 2019

The children have been keen geographers this week as they have extended their knowledge of local settlements – hopefully they can all give examples of a village, town and city in their local area now!  Many thanks from Miss Mandelson for your help in preparation for our class book ‘We are Tigers!’.  The children have enjoyed exploring similarities and differences when writing riddles about themselves.  They have been busy using the laptops to word-process their draft work and we hope to be ready to publish our book very soon.

We have enjoyed sharing the story of 'The Tiger Who Came to Tea' this week.  The children enjoyed telling Mrs Clegg what their Mummy would do if a tiger knocked on their door! There were some very imaginative answers!  We have also continued our work on shapes by sorting them into 2D and 3D, describing their properties and making shape pictures.  When you are at home please have a look to see which shapes you can spot around the house, for example: is your tissue box a cube?  Mrs Clegg looks forward to hearing about the shapes you have found next week.

Well done to those children who remembered to complete the homework in their reading diaries last week.  Just a reminder that the children in KS1 are asked to spend 10-15 minutes at the end of each week drawing or writing about a favourite book on the right-hand page in their reading diary and be ready to share this with their guided reading group the following week.  This does not have to be the school ‘reading book’ but could be a favourite bedtime story, library book or any book they have enjoyed either at home or at school.  The children also continue to have access to online reading materials on Bug Club.  You can access this at: Your child’s login details can be found on the inside cover of their reading diary.
